In the year 729 after the foundation of Rome, in Roman occupied Thebes (now Luxor) , a crowd gathers on the banks of the Nile. The legionary Marcus Livius disperses the crowd and discovers what has attracted the attention of the mob: a drifting sepulchre is floating by. On top of the floating barge is the sun dried body of a Nubian, a dignitary by the sight of his beautiful tattoos. Within the boat is jewelry, gold, and statues leaving no doubt about the wealth of the civilization from which it has come.
After considering the enormous benefits that Rome would derive from this amazing discovery, the centurion Caius Bracca decides that an expedition will be undertaken towards the source of the Nile to locate this civilization. Caius has full confidence in Marcus Livius to lead the expedition.
But he then has to quell the revolt of Sultan Obodas III. In agreement with this faithful soldier, he secretly leads a desertion, along with 10 of his men, all hotheads, to push through arid and hostile Africa ...
