    First published in Le Journal de Tintin in 1985, then in album form by Casterman the same year.

    La suite du chef d'oeuvre de Jacques Martin :Les Légions perdues. Numa Sadulus (l'homme qui a aidé Alix et Enak dans

    L'enfant Grec) invite ces derniers chez lui. Jusque là, rien d'étonnant. Pourtant, ce rendez-vous est arrangé par Pompée qui a sournoisement soustrait Vercingétorix de la Mamertime.

    Pompée cherche à ramener Vercingétorix en Gaule, mais surtout, il veut empêcher le triomphe de César. Contre toute attente, Alix accepte. S'ensuit alors une cavalcade infernale entre les fugitifs et César.

    Vercingetorix was last seen surrendering to Caesar in the second Alix book, Le Sphinx d'Or, but the Gallic leader could still be a threat to Caesar and of course that wouldn't be something that Pompey would be against. I find it interesting that Jacques Martin consistently chooses to draw Pompey as younger looking than Caesar when he was about 6-7 years older, but had a much longer military career.
