I am a Sole Survivor reading this
The Superman Origin Story is something everyone knows and that is why I think this issue bored me to all most slumber. The idea to pay homage to it is cool, yes, but far from original. This issue already was digging up from a deep pit for me based on the premise.
The premise is there is a scientist who thinks the earth is going to explode. He builds robots to try and fix the problem he believes the world has. This causes problems and now the world is in trouble. The Scientist sends he's only son... sounds familiar... in a rocketship to a distant planet. Superman must save the earth and the baby. I like Homages and all, but the storytelling did not hook me.
I just could not buy into the premise and more or less after Kevin Nowlan's cover I could never read this issue again and be happy. I am not saying there is not merit to it, the art is okay and all, but it is not a story I will crave to read again.
To make this issue the funniest kicker ever to me is that it is the title story for the reprint DC did in 2011, Superman: Sole Survivor. This reprint collects the U.L.T.R.A. Humanite story from Legends of the DC Universe as well, so its not like the reprint is a write off. But to think people would buy the reprint for this story? That is funny.
Cheers
