Son of a Syrian father and a Breton mother, Sattouf grew up first in in Libya capital, Tripoli, where his father had just been appointed teacher.
Coming from a poor background, political enthusiasm and it's borderline obsessesion for the Pan-Arabist caus, Abdel-Razak Sattouf decide to raise his son by the cult of the personality of the great Arab dictators, true symbols of modernity with the goal to forge him to a new kind of man, an educated modern Arab, The Arab of the Future.
