The New Jedi Order is the result of Luke Skywalker's reformation of the previously destroyed Jedi Order. Unlike the Old Jedi Order, members could begin training a any age, they were allowed to form romantic relationships, and children weren't taken away from their families at a young age. The New Jedi Order would survive threats such as the intergalactic Yuuzhan Vong, a reformed Galactic Empire, the resurgence of the Lost Tribe of the Sith and the entity Abeloth, and the betrayal of the One Sith.

Kyle Katarn was a former Imperial stormtrooper who defected to the Rebellion. Katarn was later informed of his Force sensitivity and taught himself to become a Jedi. Katarn went on to become a Jedi Master and a part of the Luke Skywalker Jedi High Council in the New Jedi Order.
