    An alien sent to study humans nears the end of his report. As he begins to doubt whether to send the information or not, his attention turns to the hero known as Crackerjack.

    An alien disguised as an human studies and catalogs earth's superheroes, and especially Crackerjack.

    So in this issue we meet an old retired man, who reveals himself as an alien. He is here on Earth to observe humanity and prepare his race to invade earth. He has finished his report, but has second thoughts on if to send it or not. So he decides to Observe one of Astro Citys champions. His name is Cracker Jack, and unfortunately, for all the good he tries to do. He is less than a stellar example of human decency.

    What does it mean to be human? Imagine for a minute what humans would look like to an alien. Now imagine that superheroes were real. What if all humanity were judged by the way superheroes behave? That's what 'Reconaissance', issue 5 of Astro City is all about.  An alien spy, disguised as a retiree observes and reports on Earth for his colonizing race. The determination of whether and when Earth is ripe for conquest is his decision alone. He long ago made up his own mind about the situation, but...
