S.H.I.E.L.D. designed a new project, Project Kobik, in hopes of reinventing some of the world's worst criminals. The plan was to take cosmic cube fragments from different universes and use them to warp reality as they saw fit. The plan fell through when the fragments' desire to be together forced them to violently merge. Being from different universes however, the cubes took on a very abstract shape and were in agony. The sentient cosmic cube creation went out into the world and assumed the shape of the creature it associated with the most, a human, female child. The girl was then complete and no longer in pain
Kobik was created by Nick Spencer and Mark Bagley and first appeared in the Avengers Standoff: Welcome to Pleasant Hill one-shot comic (2016).
