    Review: Knight and Squire #1

The Knight and Squire solve some arguments and disputes going down in Britain's #1 superhero pub.

    The Good

Cornell keeps this fun, light and charming with some truly clever creations for the British comics scene. I reminded me of some the whimsical pun-based characters who've come out of the better Astro City stories. My favorites were definitely the Milkman and the British Joker. Broxton's art also has an appealing robustness that reminded me of Mark Buckingham's. You could almost smell the smoky air in this colorful zoo of a pub.

    The Bad

While I enjoyed this, I'll admit that it's got a very specific audience (especially seasoned superhero readers who're be amused enough by an exploration Britain's capes community set entirely in a pub) that you might likely not fall into. It's a fun little romp, but it's honestly a little confusing between the dense usage of British slang and pop culture as well as the indirect twist in the center.

    The Verdict - 3/5

I've liked this modern interpretation of the Knight and Squire since their introduction in Morrison and McGuiness' Ultramarines story line - - so it's fun to see them get their own stories following their appearances in Batman & Robin. That being said, I wonder if this would've been better served as a feature in an 80 page giant, because I really can't picture how it's going to sustain an entire mini. Chalk it up to British humor.

The initial reading of the first issue of Knight and Squire can be a bit frustrating. Very little in happens in the issue, and the titular characters themselves seem especially secondary to the goings on. Add to this the fact that the majority of the book is written in thick British and Cockney slang, and you have something that feels completely impenetrable. (A glossary of puzzling references for "Colonists" is offered at the end of the book, showing at least some effort to clarify for those wh...

Meet London's Batman and Robin 0

Last time I saw Knight & Squire was in Batman and Robin when they help Batman and Batwoman with resurrecting the original Batman. My first experience with these two was in Batman: The Black Glove. The duo seem like a cool bunch, and I wondered why this group had a recent series. These two are basically the Batman and Robin of London, but I will tell you right now the way things are done in London is completely different from things in Gotham City. Pros: Here's something you don't see...
