    The Showa Era

    Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964)
    Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964)

In the beginning, an alien race called the Garogans allegedly created King Ghidorah and set him loose upon the universe resulting the mass extinction of countless alien races including the inhabitants of the now-inhospitable world of Venus.

The Garogans later gave King Ghidorah to the Xiliens of Planet X who sent him to Earth inside a magnetic rock to test out Earth's defenses before trying to conquer it. After freeing himself from the rock, King Ghidorah went on a rampage across Japan, destroying everything in his path.

What King Ghidorah's Xilien masters did not count on was the forging of an alliance between Godzilla, Mothra and Rodan who confronted King Ghidorah and engaged him in a battle of epic proportions that ultimately ended with King Ghidorah fleeing Earth and returning to Planet X where he was to become a trap for both the people of Earth and its monstrous defenders.

When a pair of astronauts from Earth managed to find Planet X, they were nearly killed by King Ghidorah but were "saved" by the Xiliens who asked if they could "borrow" Godzilla and Rodan so they could finally defeat King Ghidorah. The people of Earth did so in return for the secret formula of a "miracle drug" capable of healing almost any illness and allowed the Xiliens to take the two monsters to Planet X where they engaged King Ghidorah in a battle staged by the aliens, one which King Ghidorah "lost" for the sake of maintaining their ruse.

When King Ghidorah came back to Earth, he did so with a mind-controlled Godzilla and Rodan at his side along with a small fleet of Xilien saucers who would continue to use the monsters against mankind until they surrendered control of Earth, specifically its water resources, to the Xiliens. However, a group of humans including the astronauts they "rescued" managed to free Godzilla and Rodan who took on King Ghidorah in another fierce battle during which Godzilla was allegedly killed and ended with the space dragon leaving his former Xilien masters to burn to journey across the stars once more.

    Invasion of the Astro-Monster (1965)
    Invasion of the Astro-Monster (1965)

Some time later, the cockroach-like M Space Hunter Nebula aliens found King Ghidorah and took control of him using "action signal tapes" sent both him and a cyborg called Gigan to destroy Tokyo where they were engaged Godzilla and Anguirus in battle. Though the two alien monsters nearly succeeded in defeating their foes, the deaths of their masters resulted in the tables being turned in favor of Godzilla and Anguirus, who forced King Ghidorah and Gigan to flee back into space.

While in space King Ghidorah was found by the Garogans, the race who allegedly created him and was brought to their base of operations where he underwent a procedure that upgraded the power output of his gravity beams. To the very frustrated Baron Garoga, who had spent months sending one monster after the next in a bid to conquer Earth only for them to all be killed by the Zone Fighters a.k.a. the "Sakimori" family, who had come from the planet Peaceland to protect Earth from the Garogans, King Ghidorah's return to their side was just what the doctor had ordered.

Filled with a renewed sense of confidence in his ability to conquer Earth, Baron Garoga unleashed King Ghidorah upon Japan, who crushed the SDF (Super Defense Forces) during a vicious fight. When Baron Garoga learned of the creation of the "Blue-Green System" he sent of a group of terrorists to paralyze the scientists long enough for King Ghidorah to arrive and destroy it. When King Ghidorah arrived, he found the Zone Fighters in possession of a mystical jewel called the Dark Prism, which pulled itself away from the Zone Fighters and returned to its true master.

    Zone Fighter Episodes 5-6 (1973)

With the Dark Prism under his control again, King Ghidorah used it to absorb all of the sun's energy and increased his own powers astronomically, making him more powerful than anyone thought possible. Knowing that King Ghidorah was going to destroy the future he saw the Blue-Green System creating for Humanity, Hikaru (Zone Fighter) along with his siblings Hotaru (Zone Angel) and Akira (Zone Junior) decided to take on their superhuman forms and summon their ship Smokey in a bid to try and lure King Ghidorah away from the lab.

But their plan went horribly awry and the remaining members of the Sakimori family could only watch in horror as King Ghidorah wore Hikaru down with his gravity beams and then drained all of his energy using the Dark Prism. With Hikaru down for the count, his grandfather Raita (Zone Great) decided to take control of the Great Raideki, an artificial thundercloud that shortens the life of its user while dealing heavy damage to those it is used against, and fired upon King Ghidorah.

While Great Raideki was not strong enough to hurt King Ghidorah, it managed to knock him down and caused him to lose concentration on the Dark Prism, which briefly lifted the great black cloud that was blocking Earth from the light of the sun and gave Hikaru enough time to recharge. But he didn't have enough power to lure King Ghidorah into space, forcing Raita to remove the Proton crystal from their house, leaving it without the Proton Barrier that protected it from the Garogans which would mean they would be susceptible to future attacks.

    Destroy All Monsters (1968)

But seeing as how Hikaru viewed Humanity's well-being more than his own, he used the crystal to increase his power and lured King Ghidorah into space who vanished without a trace shortly after. When Hikaru returned to Earth to save his family from the Garogans, King Ghidorah appeared once again and destroyed a facility that housed a scientist who was working on a way to stop the Dark Prism.

Shortly afterward, King Ghidorah and Hikaru engaged each other in battle, but King Ghidorah was too powerful and Hikaru was forced to lead King Ghidorah into space once more.

The two landed on an asteroid, where Hikaru desperately tried to defeat King Ghidorah, only to end up nearly being killed that is until the rest of Hikaru's family arrived and gave Hikaru the power to injure and defeat King Ghidorah. King Ghidorah managed to get away, however, leaving the Garogans to face the Sakimori family alone in future battles.

At the turn of the century, in the year 1999, King Ghidorah was summoned to Earth by a race of alien invaders calling themselves the Kilaakians as their final trump card. When King Ghidorah arrived he found Godzilla, Minya, Mothra, Kumonga, Gorosaurus, Manda, Rodan, Anguirus, Baragon and Varan waiting for him.

An epic war that would decide the fate of Earth broke out, King Ghidorah fought viciously and nearly won the fight but in the end the army of monsters overpowered and killed him. After Godzilla destroyed the Kilaakian base, King Ghidorah's corpse was swallowed up by the Earth and sealed away for the rest of time.

    The Heisei Era

    Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991)
    Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991)

In an alternate timeline, a group of humans and androids from a 23rd Century where Japan had become the ultimate world power traveled back in time to the year 1992 and lied about Japan's destruction at the hands of Godzilla.

The lie was convincing enough that the Japanese Prime Minister gave them permission to go back to Lagos Island during World War II and send the dinosaur that was discovered there by American and Japanese soldiers to the Lagos Island of 1992 in order to prevent it from becoming Godzilla.

After getting their permission, they journeyed backwards in time with three people from 1992 to 1945 with a trio of small, cuddly genetically engineered creatures called Dorats to keep them company just in case they got lost.

Shortly after the American and Japanese troops pulled out and returned to their respective homes, the time-travelers sent the dinosaur forward in time and, unbeknownst to the people of 1992, secretly left the Dorats in its place, creating another alternate timeline.

In the new reality an H-Bomb was ignited near Lagos Island in 1954, the atomic energy unleashed by the explosion imbued the Dorats with unimaginable power and fused them into a massive three-headed dragon the time-travelers from the 23rd Century called King Ghidorah who, in the year 1992, went on a rampage all across Japan. Those who remembered the previous timeline realized that the time-travelers had deceived them and were using King Ghidorah to ensure that Japan never becomes an economic superpower in the 23rd Century.

However, as fate would have it, the dinosaur from Lagos Island found a crashed nuclear submarine deep under the Pacific Ocean and absorbed the nuclear radiation, becoming Godzilla as it did in the other timeline. Godzilla also came into contact with a second nuclear sub, which he destroyed and absorbed all the radiation from, becoming even more massive than his counterpart. When Godzilla made landfall, he was confronted by King Ghidorah, who engaged him in battle and almost managed to kill Godzilla.

But at the last moment, Godzilla gained the upper hand and used his atomic heat ray to blow off King Ghidorah's middle head. The great dragon attempted to flee after losing his middle head but another hit from Godzilla's atomic heat ray tore King Ghidorah's wings apart and sent him crashing into the ocean where he fell into a coma.

Two of the time-travelers, a woman named Emi Kano and an android named M-11, who had both become renegades (though only Emi was the one to betray her fellow Futurians by choice whereas M-11 was simply reprogrammed to follow Emi's commands) traveled back to the year 2204 and found the comatose form of King Ghidorah laying at the bottom of the sea.

Using the technology their era, Emi helped turn King Ghidorah into a cyborg that could be piloted by a single person and installed M-11's A.I. into the cyborg's CPU to ensure maximum sufficiency. Mecha-King Ghidorah, as he was now known, returned to 1992 and confronted Godzilla in Tokyo.

Emi engaged Godzilla in combat for a short time before finally deciding to use Mecha-King Ghidorah's new capture cables and giant machine hand to grab onto Godzilla and carry him out to sea. Godzilla blasted Mecha-King Ghidorah at point blank range as they passed over the ocean and crashed into the sea together but not before Emi had transported herself over the time-traveling vessel called KIDS.

Some time later, Mecha-King Ghidorah's corpse was fished out of the Pacific by the United Nations Godzilla Countermeasure Center and reverse-engineered the futuristic technology to create MechaGodzilla and then Moguera.

    Godzilla Island

In an alternate future where Earth's monster population lived on a secluded island in the Pacific Ocean, King Ghidorah shared an origin similar to that of his Showa counterpart. He was a world-annihilating alien from outer space who was under the control of a Xilien named Zaguresu. King Ghidorah was summoned to Earth by Zaguresu after she managed to take control of Earth's monsters and force them to battle each other.

Though the humans were able to break Zaguresu's hold over the monsters, most of them were too injured to fight King Ghidorah, thankfully Godzilla and Rodan still had enough strength left in them to battle the space-faring destroyer of worlds, which lead to all three monsters falling off of a cliff and crashing down into the ocean.

King Ghidorah had been critically injured by the fall and lay at the bottom of the ocean but Zaguresu used her powers to revive him, when he emerged from the ocean he engaged Godzilla in battle, and managed to defeat the King of the Monsters. However, a young alien woman named Torema was able to unleash a psychic wave that knocked King Ghidorah back and weakened him enough that he was able to feel Godzilla's atomic ray.

But Torema, who had been hurt by Zaguresu during an earlier battle, succumbed to her fatigue and passed out. King Ghidorah continued to fight Godzilla even after being weakened but when Godzilla gained the upper hand King Ghidorah decided on making a tactical retreat, but not before being heavily injured by Godzilla. King Ghidorah returned to the stars and was never seen or heard from again.

Years later, Zaguresu returned to Godzilla Island for one final battle that would decide Earth's fate and brought with her an unimaginably powerful robot called Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah, the successor to Mecha-King Ghidorah's throne as it were.

The vastly superior Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah attacked the island and was attacked mid-battle by a man named Landes who had stolen a ship called the Gyotengo, but Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah was simply too powerful.

But at the last moment, Misato, the daughter of the G-Guard Commander opened a warp gate that Landes had found earlier on which pulled Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah and its pilots into the portal, never to be seen again.

    Millennium

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (2001)
Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (2001)

In yet another alternate timeline King Ghidorah, Baragon and Mothra were Japans legendary guardians, during their time on Earth, King Ghidorah was an eight-headed dragon similar to Yamata no Orochi of Japanese myth.

But 2,000 years ago both King Ghidorah and his fellow guardians were killed but the people of Japan prayed for their souls so that they might one day return to corporeal form and defend them from evil once more.

Unfortunately, that evil came too early and the three guardians were forced to awaken before their appointed time. The angry and dishonored souls of those who perished in 1954 at the hands of Godzilla (an event that had been forgotten by the people of Japan) had possessed his bones and transformed him into an undead horror who was under their complete control.

King Ghidorah awakened shortly after Mothra engaged Godzilla in battle at the heart of Tokyo and came to her aid only to end up being taken down by Godzilla. But before he could completely obliterate King Ghidorah, Mothra sacrificed her life and imbued King Ghidorah with both her spirit and that of Baragon's and restored him to life with even more power at his disposal then before.

King Ghidorah and the SDF engaged Godzilla in a fierce battle that ultimately ended with Godzilla blowing King Ghidorah to pieces, but even though he had lost his corporeal form, the combined souls of King Ghidorah and his fellow guardians were able to enter Godzilla and paralyzed him just long enough for the humans to end Godzilla once and for all.

King Ghidorah's ultimate fate was never revealed, it is possible that his spirit returned to the cavern from whence he emerged and began creating another new body for himself but it is also possible that his spirit and the spirits of his fellow guardians simply ceased to exist.

Godzilla King of the Monsters (2019)
Godzilla King of the Monsters (2019)

In the universe of the American Godzilla series, King Ghidorah is known as Monster Zero. He is a triple-headed extraterrestrial dragon-like Titan who invaded Earth in the prehistoric era, clashing with its Alpha Titans Godzilla and Mothra, battling for dominance over the other Titans. But Ghidorah was ultimately defeated and sealed in a giant ice wall in Antarctica, as discovered by Monarch under Vivienne Graham. The wall trapping him was dubbed the Wall of Serpents. Ghidorah is also the inspiration for various myths of creatures long feared by their civilizations, such as the Hydra and the Rainbow Serpent.

He is shown first in a painting depicting the other Titans across the world, along with his adversaries, and Rodan, and last seen fighting Godzilla himself. In 2019, the eco-terrorist Alan Jonah with the aid of rogue Monarch member Emma Russell and the ORCA, drilled through the ice wall and ultimately released the extraterrestrial terror.

After breaking free, Ghidorah immediately commands Titans all over the world to destroy mankind. To claim back dominance over the Titans, Godzilla fights Ghidorah once again with the help of Mothra. However, the fire monster Rodan who serves Ghidorah interrupts Mothra and causes her killed by Ghidorah. Mothra channels her energy to Godzilla to help him turn into Burning Godzilla and kills Ghidorah. However, one head of Ghidorah still remains.

    Godzilla: The Half-Century War

King Ghidorah shows Godzilla who the true King of the Monsters is.
King Ghidorah shows Godzilla who the true King of the Monsters is.

In 1987, a former AMF member named Doctor Deverich used his transmitter device that was originally designed to repel monsters and sent the signal everywhere, including outer space where it was picked up by SpaceGodzilla.

What no one realized, however, was that the signal had gone so far out into space that it had caught the attention of King Ghidorah and Gigan, who altered their course and began a trek across the stars in search of Earth.

In 2001, King Ghidorah and Gigan landed on Earth and within a year burned half of the planet to the ground. During this time, the AMF retreated to Antarctica where a new Mechagodzilla and a weapon called the Dimension Tide, which was capable of firing miniaturized black holes at its targets, were constructed.

When King Ghidorah and Gigan finally reached Antarctica in 2002, they found Godzilla waiting for them along with Mechagodzilla, who had been commandeered by Captain Ota Murakami, a man who had spent most of his life chasing Godzilla since the first one destroyed Tokyo in 1954.

A fierce four-way battle erupted that shook the very foundations of the Antarctic, but from the moment the battle had been joined, King Ghidorah and Gigan had the upper hand. The two space monsters were so powerful that Godzilla and Mechagodzilla only had enough power to deal minimal damage to Gigan and temporarily throw King Ghidorah off of his feet.

The battle finally came to an end when the Dimension Tide was fired and Mechagodzilla pushed Gigan into King Ghidorah at the last second, making it impossible for the two space monsters to escape the black hole that opened up behind them and dragged them into it along with Mechagodzilla before it collapsed in on itself.

    Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters

    King Ghidorah: Savior of Earth!
    King Ghidorah: Savior of Earth!

After Godzilla and several other monsters appeared all around the world, a monk living high up in the mountains of Asia journeyed to a temple at the peak of the mountain which held King Ghidorah prisoner and underwent a suicide ritual to free Ghidorah, who ventured to Washington, D.C. and came into conflict with Godzilla. The two monsters clashed, destroying what little was left of America's capital, but in the end Godzilla prevailed and knocked King Ghidorah out.

However, during Godzilla's fight with Mechagodzilla, King Ghidorah awoke and attacked Godzilla. Ignorant of Ghidorah's status as Earth's ancient defender, Sgt. Steven Woods fired an electrical cable at both King Ghidorah and Godzilla rather than just the latter and under the President's command used the mech's ultimate weapon to bring Ghidorah and Godzilla down. While Godzilla was later revived, King Ghidorah never awoke and is presumed dead.

    Powers and Abilities

Though he has undergone many changes since the Showa era came to an end, the other versions of King Ghidorah have managed to keep their Showa counterparts' original fighting characteristics along with a few powers of their own, save for the King Ghidorah from Godzilla Island, who was basically Showa era King Ghidorah without the extra abilities. The core abilities possessed by each Ghidorah have always been:

    • Achieving flying speeds all the way up to mach 3.
    • Firing gravity beams from all three of his mouths.
    • Creating Hurricanes with his wings.
    • Constricting his foes to death using all three of his necks.

    Additional Abilities:

    Showa:

The Showa era King Ghidorah was also capable of generating powerful magnetic fields (the purpose of which was never explained) and, thanks to the Garogans, could combine his gravity beams into a single devastating bolt of gravimetric energy.

    Heisei:

When King Ghidorah became Mecha-King Ghidorah, his powers and abilities increased astronomically. His artificial solar-paneled wings equipped with anti-gravity tech allowed him to reach speeds all the way up to mach 4. The robotic middle head that had taken the place of his missing organic one could fire a powerful triple laser beam and the torso was equipped with four capture cables and a large mechanical hand restraint that could discharge electricity upon contact. His organic heads were also still capable of generating gravity beams, which made him an even greater force to be reckoned with.

    Godzilla Island (Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah):

Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah was capable of doing much more than its cyborg counterpart. It had been equipped with an ice beam, a tractor beam and could fire gravity bolts like its organic counterparts except they were red instead of yellow. Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah was also capable of reattaching its robotic heads in the event it had been severed or blown out. Unlike Mecha-King Ghidorah, however, Hyper Mecha-King Ghidorah did not possess capture cables or a large mechanical hand like its predecessor did.

    Millennium:

The weakest of all the King Ghidorah's possessed two unique abilities: the ability to absorb the souls of his fellow guardians and become somewhat more powerful and the ability to change into an eight-headed dragon but only after sleeping uninterrupted for 12,000 years.

    The Ghidorah Species

In 1996, after the release of Rebirth of Mothra, it was revealed that the name "Ghidorah" was actually the name of an entire species of three-headed dragons who roamed the universe destroying worlds either for fun or in the name of some galactic empire who had the technology to control them. Aside from King Ghidorah, only three other Ghidorahs have been seen on Earth.

    Cretaceous King Ghidorah:

    Cretaceous King Ghidorah
    Cretaceous King Ghidorah

In 130,000,000 B.C. during Earth's Cretaceous period, the younger version of Grand King Ghidorah arrived on Earth and eradicated both the dinosaurs and many other species that roamed the planet during this period. When he was finished, it encased itself in a meteor it had created using the life energies of the creatures it had slain.

Then, during a meteor shower in 1999, that very same meteor crashed into the Mt. Fuji region which broken open and unleashed Grand King Ghidorah, it's adult self, upon the world. Grand King Ghidorah was confronted by Rainbow Mothra, who was utterly defeated by the space-faring kidnapper. Realizing that Ghidorah could not be defeated in the present, Mothra traveled 130 million years into the past where he confronted the younger and less powerful Ghidorah.

Cretaceous King Ghidorah was on the verge of eating a Tyrannosaurus Rex when he was attacked by Rainbow Mothra, a fierce battle erupted between the two during which one of Cretaceous King Ghidorah's tails were cut off and dug itself into the ground where it would eventually mature into Grand King Ghidorah. Mothra eventually gained the upper hand after she used a paralyzing powder on him and dropped the young Ghidorah into an erupting Mt. Fuji, creating an alternate timeline in which Grand King Ghidorah ceased to exist...for a short time.

    Grand King Ghidorah:

    Grand King Ghidorah
    Grand King Ghidorah

After it's assault on Earth in 130,000,000 B.C., Grand King Ghidorah returned to Earth and began flying across Japan stealing every child it could find whom were all placed in a large impenetrable feeding dome. Rainbow Mothra engaged Grand King Ghidorah in battle shortly after he had kidnapped several hundred children and managed to defeat him without effort. When Mothra traveled backwards in time and killed his younger self, he was erased from existence along with his feeding dome, but shortly after the children were reunited with their parents another Grand King Ghidorah appeared.

This Grand King Ghidorah, who had grown from one of his younger self's tails that had been severed during the battle with Mothra, had appeared one day earlier than his counterpart did and went on a rampage just like before. His restoration also caused all of the children to return to the newly established feeding dome along with their parents but Grand King Ghidorah's victory was short lived. Apparently, after Mothra had killed the younger Ghidorah, he was approached by three Cretaceous Mothra larvae who encased him in a cocoon.

When the cocoon hatched shortly after Grand King Ghidorah returned from non-existence, Mothra emerged in his Armor Mothra form and immediately launched a counterattack on his ancient foe. The two battled each other once more, but Mothra's new armor provided him complete protection from Grand King Ghidorah's gravity beams. In the end, Armor Mothra killed Grand King Ghidorah and freed everyone from the feeding dome.

    Desghidorah:

    Desghidorah
    Desghidorah

In 67,000,000 B.C., a world-devouring cosmic horror known as Desghidorah entered our Solar System and descended upon Mars, where he destroyed the advanced civilization that lived there and literally sucked the life out of the planet, turning it into the barren red wasteland we see today.

But Desghidorah was not content with destroying just Mars and so he turned his attention to Earth. When he arrived on the planet, he was met with heavy resistance in the form of tiny humanoids called the Elias and the race of gigantic Moths who protected them.

After a long and brutal war, the Elias were able to seal Desghidorah beneath a forest in a region of Japan that would eventually come to be known as Hokkaido, but the price of sealing the demon away had been high. All but three of the Elias (Belvera, Moll and Lora) and one of the giant moths (Mothra) had survived, war had also brought about the extinction of the dinosaurs and many other animals, it would take Earth centuries to recover from Desghidorah's attack.

In 1997, a time when deforestation and pollution were at a fever pitch, a logging company was clearing out the lush, beautiful forests of Hokkaido when the location of a large fossil-like rock and a pendent called the Seal of Elias that kept Desghidorah from escaping his prison was uncovered. Yuichi, the man in charge of deforestation at the site where the seal was found, removed the pendent from the fossil-like rock to take back home as a gift for his daughter.

The act of removing the pendent caused the earth to tremble, but it wasn't until Belvera got her hands on the seal that everything went horribly wrong. Belvera used the seal to unleash Desghidorah and placed him under her command, upon awakening Desghidorah began to draw energy from the Earth in order to restore his powers and mobility. Moll and Lora, Belvera's incorruptible sisters, were forced to summon Mothra to battle Desghidorah even though she was weak from both old age and having just given birth.

Mothra flew into battle despite this, however, and attacked Desghidorah who was far too vicious for her to handle on her own and after knocking her out of the sky began attacking her relentlessly. Feeling his mother's pain, the underdeveloped Mothra larva inside the egg she had laid hatched early and headed directly for Hokkaido where he confronted his mother's attacker using its electrically-charged silk to harm Desghidorah.

The attack managed to confuse Desghidorah for a moment but he eventually shook it off and bit into the flesh of the infant with its left and middle heads and lifted him into the air, sending red electric surges through the baby's body before smashing him into the ground over and over again. When the infant's mother managed to regain a great deal of strength from the same pendent that had freed Desghidorah, she launched a fully scale assault on Desghidorah, who tossed her child aside like a ragged doll and fought back.

Another fierce battle between Mothra and Desghidorah broke out but in the end, the space demon managed to repel her, around the same time the camouflaged infant emerged from the forest and continued his attack on the ancient demon. Upon discovering his location, Desghidorah began to attack the infant but was blindsided by Mothra, who lured Desghidorah to a nearby dam which he accidentally blew apart while trying to hit Mothra and was washed away by the surging water.

After Mothra took her infant and left, Desghidorah got back on his feet and continued draining the life out of Hokkaido which created an immense black cloud that began to pollute the air and kill all plant life under the shadow of the great cloud. Once he absorbed enough energy, Desghidorah grew wings and took to the skies, and begin tearing the Earth apart.

But while soaring through the sky, Desghidorah was attacked by the infant Mothra, who had grown into a full-fledged moth after absorbing the might of a 10,000 year old tree. Desghidorah attempted to fight back but the new Mothra was too powerful and ultimately felled Desghidorah, who was sealed away once more, never to be seen again.

    Monster X:

    Monster X
    Monster X

Monster X was an alien monstrosity controlled by the Xilliens and served as their trump card against the mighty Godzilla. Like many Ghidorahs, he arrived on Earth inside an asteroid which Godzilla destroyed just as it entered Earth's atmosphere unintentionally releasing the monster within.

Their battle commenced without delay and fought until X crushed Godzilla's arms and brought the King of the Monsters to his knees, wailing in horrible agony. But just as X started to win, he was attacked by Mothra, who had come to aid Godzilla in battle but she was attacked by a new and improved version of Gigan.

After Gigan killed her, X and Gigan managed to overpower and nearly kill Godzilla when two buzz saws Gigan had used to kill Mothra decapitated the cyborg, leaving X to fight alone. After several more rounds of fist fighting, X and Godzilla split up and fired their long-range energy blasts at one another, causing a massive explosion that knocked both monsters to the ground.

When the Xillien who had usurped the position of Controller from his predecessor died, he transferred all of his godlike powers into Monster X who began to transform before Godzilla's very eyes.

    Keizer Ghidorah:

    Keizer Ghidorah
    Keizer Ghidorah

After being infused with the Controllers powers Monster X got down on all fours, sprouted wings, enlarged the proportions of his body, changed his white skeletal armor into a stronger dark gold armor, elongated his neck and allowed his shoulder skulls to fill out and become extra heads.

Monster X was now a thing of the past, only Keizer Ghidorah remained and he was even more powerful than Godzilla could have imagined. With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, Godzilla engaged Keizer Ghidorah in battle and tried to procure an immediate advantage.

But Keizer Ghidorah's gravity beams managed to tear through Godzilla and knock him to the ground where the continuous stream of golden lightning bolts dragged the King of the Monsters across the ruins of Tokyo and then lifted him up close enough to Keizer Ghidorah that the space demon was able to bite into Godzilla with all three heads and begin draining Godzilla's power.

When all hope seemed lost, a young man named Okazaki, who possessed the same godlike powers that the Controller had charged the Gotengo's maser drill using his own abilities and transferred a great deal of power into Godzilla, allowing him to escape Keizer Ghidorah's grasp and use his atomic heat ray to blow the space demon's right head off just as it was firing a gravity bolt which Godzilla managed to redirect at the left head, scorching it.

The mangled Ghidorah collapsed to the ground, writhing in agony, unable to stop Godzilla from hurling him into the sky. Using his spiral heat ray, Godzilla blasted Keizer Ghidorah into orbit where he exploded, ending the threat posed by the Xillien's trump card.

    Powers and Abilities

While two of the Ghidorahs possessed some abilities similar to King Ghidorah, all of them possessed unique abilities of defined them as separate individuals.

    Cretaceous King Ghidorah:

The younger version of Grand King Ghidorah was unable to generate gravity-based attacks when he was younger and instead spat fireballs from his mouths. Like most Ghidorahs, he could only fly at mach 3 and was able to generate hurricane winds by flapping his wings, he could also travel through space by creating a meteor from the souls of those he had killed. He was also capable of growing his entire body back from severed portions of his body.

    Grand King Ghidorah:

The fully-grown Ghidorah was still capable of flying at mach 3 and generating hurricane winds from his wings but thanks to 130,000,000 years of training could generate massive tentacle-covered domes that allowed objects to pass through but not out thanks to the acidic compound on the inner walls.

He was also capable of teleporting smaller lifeforms from any location to the dome as long as he was in proximity to the lifeforms, he could also fire gravity bolts from his mouths and bolts of electricity from his wings. He could also bend light from projectiles to create an energy shield and generate a zero gravity field so he could continue to fly in the event one of his wings had been severed.

Grand King Ghidorah could also control the minds of lesser creatures by simply staring into their eyes and create an asteroid to travel through space inside of from the souls of those he had killed.

    Desghidorah (Land Form):

In his land form, Desghidorah was capable of breathing Hellfire from the mouth of his middle head and could spit fireballs from all three. He was also able to perform Shock Pulses, unleash powerful shockwaves all over his body and send red electric surges through his bites which would burn those unlucky enough to be caught in its grip.

But his most powerful and devastating attack was his Fiery Pyre Road, which created a chasm that would unleash a chain of powerful explosions from deep beneath the earth. He could also suck the life out of the Earth just by concentrating on bringing the energy up to the surface, which would increase his powers exponentially.

The process of doing so would create a massive black cloud that would kill all plant life beneath its shadow and make the oxygen almost impossible to breathe.

    Desghidorah (Flying Form):

The only new abilities Desghidorah had gained by transforming into his flying form was the ability to fly at the speed of mach 23 and release hurricane winds just by flapping them.

    Monster X:

Monster X was capable of firing gravity beams from his eyes and the ability to levitate, he could also transform into Keizer Ghidorah and was both agile and strong. He was also extremely skilled in the Martial Arts.

    Keizer Ghidorah:

Keizer Ghidorah was capable of firing gravity beams much stronger than Godzilla's thermonuclear breath from his mouths and was able to guide their paths and use them to pick up and throw objects. Keizer Ghidorah could also drain the life out of his opponents through his bite. In the comics, Keizer Ghidorah had the ability to fly as well.
