Manga Biography
Volume 1
He is the leader of the Instrumentality Committee and appears after the battle with the Third Angel to remind Gendo Ikari of the importance placed in the Instrumentality Project. He considers this to be the greatest hope for mankind. He grants Gendo Ikari his budget adjustments, feeling that a delay to the Instrumentality Project should not be related to the battle with the angels.
Volume 7
Lorenz admits after the battle with the Ninth Angel that, although Ikari is a dangerous man to leave in charge of NERV, they are indebted to him for getting them so far. He decides that it is time to strike at Ikari and regain control of SEELE’s scenario. Realising that Ikari is at the end of his usefulness, he and the Committee play their trump card in Tabris, Kaworu Nagisa.
Volume 8
He, as SEELE 01, is the chief interrogator of Sub-Commander Fuyutski regarding NERV’s actions. In Fuyutski’s flashbacks, it is revealed that Keel was among the men who attending the press release for the official story of Second Impact. He also placed the ‘Committee for the Instrumentality of Man’ in charge of NERV in the place of SEELE, which acted behind the scenes.
Volume 9
After the battle with the Tenth Angel, he threatens Ikari with his removal from SEELE’s meetings. Almost mimicking Ikari’s actions with the Lance of Longinus, he speaks about forcing time to move faster with his own actions through the use of the final angel.
Volume 10
He is a part of the interrogation of Ritsuko Akagi, revealing to her that Gendo sent her in place of Rei Ayanami. Keel feels it is best to let her go, due to her past contributions to the Eva program and a hope that she could serve them for the future of humankind.
Volume 11
In meeting with Kaworu, he express his disappointment in Ikari’s usurpation of the NERV organisation for his own ends. He reveals that he believes mankind are the false rulers of the planet and hopes that the species can be reborn as true children of God.
After Kaworu’s defeat as the final angel, Lorenz feels that SEELE must disregard the power of Adam and the angels and seek an Instrumentality of their own making.
Volume 12
After Asuka has managed to defeat the aerial forces SEELE intended to use for their invasion of NERV, Lorenz laments that they have been forced to fight the Evas using Evas of their own.
