At DC she was the one who edited and helped bring in talent for several of the books that led to Vertigo's creation such as Alan Moore's Saga of the Swamp Thing and Neil Gaiman's The Sandman.

    She won the Inkpot Award in 1990, three Eisner Awards (1993, 1994 and 1995), and the Comics Buyer's Guide Award for Favorite Editor every year from 1997 through 2005. But perhaps what she is best known for is creating the Vertigo imprint (she was Executive Editor of said imprint).     On December 3rd 2012 Executive Editor Karen Berger announced stepping down from her position and leaving the imprint in March 2013.
