Kamandi avenges the death of his grandfather, who was killed by wolves, but is captured by a tiger named Caesar--who turns him over to dog-scientist Dr. Canus!

Kamandi of the Caves become Kamandi the Last Boy on Earth on the Planet of the Apes,Lions,Tigers,Bears on my and every other talking animal.

Jack Kirby wrote, illustrated &; acted as editor on his brainchild project, Kamandi! This first issue grabs the reader with a strange cover; a blonde boy rowing his raft through the destruction that was , complete with a Planet of the Apes-style busted Statue of Liberty.Unfortunately, nobody bothered editored him, when such might improved a series, that was his best at DC Comics-certainly,despites flaws the most fun.Kamandi had been part of a population of intelligent humans (?)away from the surface world for a few generations. Eventually they all died off except Kamandi and his grandfather. No explaination was given why.

Growing up in an apocalyptic future, a boy named Kamandi rides a raft down the flooded streets of what was once Manhattan.Jack Kirby, having claimmed to have saw any Planet of the Apes movies put the movies iconic image The Statue of Liberty half sticking out of the water, instead of the sand.Behind it,we see the Empire States Building it,making wonder how two icons of New York got so close, with being blown apart in whatever cataclysm that created this world. Captions suggest that humans have been hidden underground for some time-decades,centuries or eons, until the radiation, cause great shocks-earthquakes rocked the world. He sees a group of nomadic humans who flee at the sight of him. While studying them, Kamandi hears an explosion emanating from his command bunker headquarters. He races back to the base to find that someone had set off the booby traps. We find out the bunker people, least Kamandi's unnamed parents kept up a long tradition of naming their kids after signs on doors around the sub terrain world.

Running inside, he is shocked to discover that two wolf-men named Fen and Stek have murdered his grandfather and stolen stolen documents that they found within the bunker's walls. At this point Grandfather's name is unknown, but years on we learn Grandfather turns out to Buddy Blank-otherwise known as Omac. This make us Wonder,is Kamandi's full name Kamandi Blank ? The wolves attack Kamandi, but he shrugs off the assault with some well-placed karate moves. They chase him down into the tunnels that run beneath Command-D, but Kamandi pulls down some wires that strikes the water, electrocuting them.

Emerging from the tunnels, Kamandi takes the Wolves' wagon and drives away.Where Kamandi learned to drive, just watching microfilm is a wonder A short time later, he comes upon another amazing sight - a squad of armored Tiger-Men embroiled in armed combat against some pirate Leopard-Men.Why Leopard-Men become sea pirates is never explainned. Kamandi finds himself caught in the middle of the conflict and is captured by the Tiger-Men. The Tiger-Men leader Great Caesar bring him back to the Royal City where he is imprisoned.

Kamandi meets a dog man named Doctor Canus, who is the caretaker of Caesar's prisoners as well as the keeper of a giant nuclear warhead - a holdover from the days before the Great Disaster.Making one,did Kirby see the first two movies or just go on hear by description by those who did?Kamandi suddenly realizing the Talking Tigers are worshipping an atomic bomb, just those stupid mutants in the ape movies, grabs Caesar's laser septor and cancell everyone's ticket before DC will years on.Before everyone goes up like Chuck Heston in the end of Beneath the Planet of the Apes,Doctor Canus stops the Last Boy on Earth. Inside Canus' private laboratory, Kamandi meets one of the Nuclear People - Ben Boxer-all decked in a sinilar space suite like Cornelius,Zera and Dr.Milo had Escape from the Planet of the Apes. Kamandi is ecstatic at the chance to meet another human being and the series stalls forever after, with no significant developements until the series gets cancelled.
