This series and Arkham Asylum are my favorite Grant Morrison stuff. His new stuff, let just say it's not up to par with the old and that's a fact.
Justice League of America
Team » Justice League of America appears in 3324 issues.
The Justice League (also known as the Justice League of America or the JLA) is a team comprised of the premier heroes of the DC Universe.
Why Grant Morrison's JLA Run Was The Best Team Book
Well, the mythic comparison is a little bit wannabe-sophisticated - sorry, no offense, just my two cents - you could do this comparsion for almost every superhero team ... the superhero genre itself started as some kind of childish action-re-interpretation of classic mythological stories ... no wonder some well known superheroes even are ancient gods as superheroes. So, that's not really the WOW insight and in case of Morrisons JLA run a bit far-fetched ... it's just a big hitters team and every member has a well-thought-out role (for example: the Martian Manhunter had a very central role in Morrisons team ... and by the way your mythic role attribution doesn't fit in most cases).
BUT I totally agree: Morrisons JLA run is one of the best team books EVER!
Martian Manhunter's parallel (while a godess and not a god) is Hestia, the godess of hearth and home. MM in many ways is the homekeeper of the JLA, as both he and WW look out for everybody else in an emotional sense (WW in a motherly sense, MM in a team mate sense). Think about after Batman's plans screwed everyone else on the team. It was J'onn that consoled everyone. Another pont toward his parallel being Hestia is that he is always in the JLA but rarely has his own series. Basically, you only see him when all the heroes are together, similiar to how you only see Hestia on Mount Olympus. Yet another point is that he helps the team communicate through hispsychic powers. Hestia, as the goddess of home and hearth, was also a consoling goddess.
your reasoning is solid but your answer is wrong, mm was supposed to be Chiron who wasnt a god but a trainer/advisor to demigods
Definitely the best JLA era. Most successful relaunch and hit all the right beats. He made the characters fresh and the interaction sizzled with respect and compliment to each other in power and fluid actions.
Perez/Wolfman New Teen Titans was unique for a DC book with young characters written like young characters making a family of friends and dealing with a shared world that touched on all corners of the DCU due to their family ties. The audience wanted this era to mature into the next generation to hold the JLA torch.
Morrison's JLA was epic, not forced just what you think JLA should be every month on every single page!
never read it.
You should, its the best Justice League run ever and one of the best comic book runs ever IMO.
His run was massively overrated. Morrison did nothing but make Batman look good. It's a team book, not a Batman book.
I really enjoyed how over the top it seemed with some far out concepts (for me at that time).
It was just fun to read month after month.
The following writers just didn't have the same kind of stories which was what I wanted for the JLA series.
