This weekend FanExpo is happening in Toronto and some fitting news is coming from DC. In 2014, JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA will be renamed and feature a new Canadian character alongside the heroes we know, according to the Toronto Star.

Who better to write a Canadian Justice League team than Canadian writer extraordinaire, Jeff Lemire? (Now it makes sense why he's leaving JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK).

Lemire told the Star this was a dream job as well as the following:

"I do want to create a cool, rural Northern Ontario headquarters for Justice League Canada, and I don’t want to spoil it yet. And it’s not a hockey rink, I promise. Although, of course, it did cross my mind."

Lemire mentions it won't be exactly like Marvel's ALPHA FLIGHT as most of those characters are clichés. It will still be the Justice League in their universe. Some of the big named heroes will be there, only they'll now be in Canada. Could this mean the return of Booster Gold since he became Canadian in the New 52?

All this will happen after Trinity War and Forever Evil.

“As a result of that, without spoiling any of that story, there will be major changes in the Justice Leagues, and in the spring, the current Justice League of America team goes through a dramatic change and some of the pieces that are left behind will evolve into this new Justice League Canada team.”

Lemire also said he plans on bringing Adam Strange into the New 52. Of course, he'll be Canadian as well.

The full roster has not been revealed yet but Lemire calls it a "dream team" of A-list characters as well as some of his favorite "oddball and more obscure" heroes. Lemire will continue to write GREEN ARROW as well as writing and painting TRILLIUM.

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF CANADA will be drawn by Mike McKone.

Being Canadian I should be hyped and I will pick these issues up but I feel this change is for 5 issues max then they will go back to being the JLA setting up a League in every country so it will be Justice Inc or something.

Eh, we'll see how it goes when it comes out. I'm a fan of the JLA book but I had to drop it because it wasn't one of my top favorites and I wasn't getting all 3 JL books for Trinity War. I'm spending enough on Infinity

Yeah I'm Canadian too, but this feels wierd. I thought the initial team was cool. Oh well... we can't judge before actually reading the book.

My first reaction to this was Whaaaaaa!!?

But in Jeff Lemire I trust, if he tells a good story I'm for it.

What I'm not happy about is him leaving Jl dark. He's made that book really awesome.

I've been racking my brain all week what his new DC series would be. This was not even a remote possibility in my wildest dreams. Here's hoping Lemire channels some of that Giffen & DeMatteis magic from the JLI days. If so, I'm in.

... ._. I remain skeptical. Why drag the franchise out as much as you can? And why change a team that basically just was formed.

I must have missed the announcement that Lemire was leaving JLD. I was wondering what book was going to have to give for him to do this.

I realize they do it to draw people to the book but for puppies sake can't we have teams without Justice League being their name?

Maybe a compromise call it Justice League on the outside but have a different name on the inside or call it Justice League Presents insert team name. Just something other than another team called Justice League in that Universe.

Glad Canada is getting a team though. I always like it when other countries get their own team.

1). Well at least it's just a re-branding of an already existing justice league title rather than a brand new one starting from issue #1, which would have brought us up to a grand total of 5 running justice league books (giving us a nice taste of the avengers/x-team formula used by the house of ideas).

3). Holy internationals batman! DC is recognizing the existence of other countries other than America again, after their blunder of replacing an African hero with another American based one and cancelling their other 2 international hero books JLI & Batman.Inc!!!!

4). I'll look forward to it. The current JLA book is just a cash in for trinity war imho, (a crossover event which has not garnered much of an interest with me) so seeing another team take over (completely) would be a nice refreshing taste.

@dernman: My understanding is Justice League of AMERICA is changing to CANADA. So it's not like they're just adding another JL book.

The changes include the name, the location and the team roster. JLA is about the characters and their connection to the larger DC Universe. If that changes a great deal, I'm not sure how that's a good thing.

p.s. What about JLA's Vibe comic, will that name change to if there's no JLA comic anymore.

Adam Strange is confirmed, Martian Manhunter will probably be there too since Lemire said he has major plans for J'onn in 2014. Let's see if Booster Gold comes back now.

I'm going to PAX Prime next week in Seattle, Rose City Comic Con in Portland next month (so is Jen!), NYCC in October (with practically everyone) and maybe Long Beach in November. December I'll be playing my PS4.

Cool, I always get tired of the big two just focusing on America. However, I can't name any Canadian heroes in the DCU, off the top of my head, can anyone list some?

Even though Alpha Flight is one of my absolute favorite comic teams, this news struck me as an act of desperation and very very bizarre choice (not in a good way). But with Jeff Lemire and Mike McKone as the creative team, I need to at least give this a chance.

So the article mentions Lemire will continue with Green Arrow and Trillium. I assume he is continuing with Animal Man as well? If not I'm going to be heartbroken.

Well saying that this is coming out of Trinity War, I can see it working. It seems weird (and like DC is messing with us lately since the Affleck announcement), but it could work from a story perspective. And Lemire is on it, so I have faith in it.

When I was stationed at Fort Drum while in the army I used to drive to Canada all the time. Its really nice over there and I had a lot of fun. I know it is only a comic book world and it does always mimic the real world, but does anything bad ever happen in Canada?
