Justice League of America #6 Trinity War: Part 2 of 6

    COVER ART: 4.5/5

IVAN REIS, ROD REIS, & JOE PRADD produce the main variant of this issue, and in line with any major event, the cover is FULL: full of color, full of action, full of characters. It is definitely a standout cover for DC this week (7/14/13)

    STORY ARC: 3/5

Geoff Johns is a great writer, and great writers slow a story down in the same way a tsunami draws the water calmly away from the shore prior to unleashing it's true power back onto the beach and to those unaware.

"Questions. So many questions. And not just stuck in MY head anymore. They are out there, loose, spreading LIKE A VIRUS. What evil can be strong enough to corrupt even the most powerful among men? What can even frighten the Gods? The Question or The Man with No FACE. This one page and quote sums up this entire issue. How could Superman KILL someone? Was it really him that was in control when he killed Dr. Light, or was someone else manipulating him? If it was someone else, who could that be, and why would they do it? And what kind of power must this person possess to corrupt the Man of Steel?

This issue starts and ends with "the Question or the Man with No Face" trying to solve this very puzzle. We move on to the battlefield in Kahndaq where the Martian Manhunter has a significant headlock on both Superman & Flash. Superman has his eyes covered, in disbelief of what he has just done. The two Justice teams are not quite battling, but assuming battle positions against their matched opponents. No one can believe what has just happened, and more so, they can't believe it was Superman who did it. The Atom wants to just throw in the towel, she does not want to betray the Justice League.

Martian Manhunter, while holding Superman in a headlock, tries to penetrate Clark's mind with his telepathy, trying to figure out who is responsible for what happened to Superman. What we see is a chess piece carved in the image of Superman, one that was missing from part 1 of this series. Along with the piece, there is a note that reads "another trophy for the collection!" This shows that someone is obviously masterminding this whole charade. Flash, in a brilliant move to aid his friend, vibrates his hand through the chest of MM. I didn't know he could do that! Colonel Trevor sicks his "anti-Flash" dog Vibe, on Flash. Vibe, reluctantly, neutralizes Flash and even more. Vibe senses something otherworldly, but before we know what it is, Superman slams the ground, sending everyone a scatter, and demands to be locked up. Our Hero! Imprisoned by Colonel Trevor! But not only is Superman imprisoned, he is sick, emotionally and physically! Superman is coughing, unable to hear very well, and starting to turn green like when he is exposed to Kryptonite.

While everyone is standing around asking questions, Wonder Woman takes action! This is her Man! She travels to Hell, and lassos Hephaestus himself to find out how to destroy Pandora's Box as all legend and Myth states that Hephaestus actually made the box. Under the oath of the truth lasso, we find this is not true. The box is a mystery. Not even Zeus is aware of its origin, and he used Pandora as a guinea pig to discover what the box is and what it would do. Wonder Woman finds answers, but is left with just more questions.

Our last stanza sees Colonel Trevor making a 1 on 1 visit to Superman; however, it is actually the Man with No Face, the Question! He offers Superman the opportunity to find out who "really" killed Dr. Light.

    STORY ART: 3.999/5

DOUG MAHNKE pencils this issue and does a remarkable job. I love all the big splash pages he does in this issue and there are only a few panels that drop this score from a full 4 to a 3.999. These panels are not necessarily bad, they are just "simple". Doug does a great job with great detail on most pages, great character imagery, but there are a few pages that seem that he "phoned it in".

    FINAL VERDICT: 3/5

Despite the number 3/5, I HIGHLY recommend this issue. I think there are times to hit the gas, and times to slow so as not to crash into a rail, or drive over a cliff. This issue seemed to slow a bit, just as we seem to be getting started, but I understand that, and expected a slower issue in this series. I totally understand what Geoff Johns is trying to do and I am totally on board with it. The art was not super great, but it was very good. This issue, compared to part one of this series, Justice League #22, just wasn't a great and that is why the score is a tad lower. I still love this Trinity War event, and still like this issue very much.

What is the Most Important Question? 0

Overall this series has been very interesting, and has had one of the more stronger starts from the New 52 series, even if it has been slightly inconsistent. I has however been Trinity War that has enthralled me recently, and I loved the opening in Justice League #22, and hopefully the story will continue to amaze.PlotAfter killing Dr. Light it is questioned whether Superman is safe to be around, and whether he's in control of his powers, or not. The Question (Vic Sage) also interjects himself i...
