Journey inside the mind of the mysterious Adam, in the stunning climax of a tale that forever changes Zatanna’s life.
As reality shifts about them, J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars, desperately searches, for some trace of the Gypsy, or Zatanna, in Adam's mind. Zatanna emerges within Adam's subconscious, having overcome his repressed demons. Zatanna draws the Gypsy from Adam's subconscious. The Martian Manhunter re-establishes telepathic contact with Zatanna.
The Gypsy is returned to the material world. Zatanna continues on her journey through Adams' subconscious, on her way to the Godhead. Adam's lust seduces Zatanna. Zatanna's father, the deceased magician, Zatara, helps Zatanna to see the reality of Adam's lust. Zatara aids Zatanna is resisting Adam's subconscious defenses. Reality shifts about Adam again.
To preserve Pamela Cross' sanity, J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars tasks the Gypsy to project, and maintain, an illusion of stability. Zatanna finds herself trapped in an endless maze. Clarity is found in her father's words, allowing Zatanna to navigate her way out of the maze. Zatanna reaches the Godhead, and witnesses it's unrelenting absorption of Adam's psyche. Zatanna gives herself freely over to the Godhead.
The Gypsy can longer maintain her illusion of stabilty, as Adam's power distorts reality again. Cross suffers a psychotic break. Zatanna becomes one with the Godhead. Zatanna is forcibly ejected from the Godhead, back to the material plane. Adam's psyche is devoured by the Godhead. Zatanna revives Adam. In truth, all has happened as the Godhead intended.
Elevated to another level of consciousness, Adam, and Zatanna, are now prepared to fulfill their destiny. Zatanna restores Cross' sanity. Adam, and Zatanna, fade away. The Martian Manhunter is skeptical regarding the true motivations at play. The Gypsy, and J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars, make their report to the Justice League of America. Half the team are happy for Zatanna, the other half voice doubts and suspicion. Their debate is interrupted by Firestorm, the Nuclear Man, who recruits the Justice League of America in the battle against Brimstone.
