Batman’s back to lead the World’s Greatest Super Heroes, but can he emerge victorious over an all-new Despero?!

Despero journeys to Earth. En route, he murders a passive alien creature, the Torq, simply because it is in his path. The Batman oversees a training exercise between Vibe, and the Vixen. The Batman is displeased with Vibe's performance. The Vixen easily eludes Vibe's attacks, while tricking him into bringing the ceiling down upon himself. Vibe storms out of the training room, furious that the Batman is being so hard on him. The Vixen takes the Batman to task for his training methods. J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars, allays the Gypsy's concerns, regarding Zatanna's absence. The Martian Manhunter continues his own investigation into the disappearance of a young girl.

The Gypsy decides to join J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars, without his knowledge. Sheri Stanley explains to Zatanna why she assisted in abducting her. Adam confronts Zatanna. Adam explains that he is taking DNA from Zatanna, against her will, to make himself more like her. The Martian Manhunter, as private investigator, John Jones, confronts his employer, Burt Biloxi. Jones accuses Biloxi of framing him for murder. Invisible, the Gypsy steals a file from Biloxi. Jones follows the Gypsy out, and confronts her. Jones' telepathic scan of Biloxi clears him of any wrong doing. The Gypsy suggests Jones speak with the missing girl's parents, while she looks for the girl.

Jones is reluctant to accept the Gypsy's help on the case. Henry Heywood takes Robin Flynn on a date. A traffic accident forces Heywood to reveal his super-human powers. The Vixen speaks with the Batman, still critical but also open. Despero rams his space ship into the satellite headquarters of the Justice League of America. Despero is disheartened to find the satellite a ruin, and long abandoned. Due to the impact of Despero's ship, the satellite begins to rapidly descend into Earth's atmosphere. Despero rides the falling satellite to Earth.

Note: While The Elongated Man is featured on the cover, he does not actually appear in the story.
