The Overmaster claims responsibility for driving several species to extinction. The Overmaster demonstrates his godlike power. To determine if humanity has the right to survive, the Overmaster orders the Justice League of America to battle against the Cadre. Dale Gunn returns to the Justice League of America's headquarters, in Detroit. Gunn finds the Gypsy waiting for him. The Gypsy informs Gunn that the Justice League of America are in trouble. The Justice League of America battle the Cadre. After Shatterfist opens a chasm, with his earthquake-generating strikes, J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars, orders a strategic retreat.
Aquaman takes the Justice League of America's failure to subdue the Cadre personally. Gunn, with the Gypsy, tracks the Justice League of America to the Overmaster's mountain stronghold. Deep within the mountain, the Elongated Man discovers a colossal alien, in a state of suspend animation. The Overmaster, and the Cadre, attack the Justice League of America. The Justice League of America engages the Overmaster, and the Cadre, to buy the Martian Manhunter time to establish telepath contact with the alien. The Overmaster attacks J'onn J'onzz, the Manhunter From Mars, to bar him from making contact with the alien.
The Gypsy attacks the Overmaster. The Martian Manhunter orders the Gypsy to make contact with a gemstone, hovering in a floating pyramid, above the alien's head. Upon making contact with the gemstone, the Gypsy triggers a massive discharge of energy, that consumes the Overmaster, and the Cadre. Gunn collects the Justice League of America. Aquaman explains that the Overmaster was merely a parasite, feeding off the power of the sleeping alien. Said alien is presumably the one responsible for the extinction events throughout history, not the Overmaster. The Justice League of America witness the mountain stronghold of the Overmaster, really the alien's starship, launch into the orbit.
