Elongated Man and Black Canary capture the Ten aboard the JLA satellite, but not before Green Arrow joins the ranks of comatose Leaguers in the hospital. Batman and the Flash join Elongated Man and Black Canary to attack the Royal Flush Gang’s headquarters, only to be taken out of action, one by one. In the end, the villains are betrayed by the Jack, who teams up with Black Canary to defeat the King and Queen and reveal Ace as a robot. The hospitalized League members are saved when the astral self of Hector Hammond, secretly the Royal Flush Gang’s organizer, Wild Card, is unexpectedly attacked by the mental persona of Firestorm’s alter ego, Prof. Martin Stein.

The Black Canary, and the Elongated Man, return to the satellite headquarters of the Justice League of America, to find the Green Arrow's comatose body. The Elongated Man discovers a transparent oxygen mask, suggesting that the Green Arrow's assailant is still aboard the satellite. Just as the Black Canary notices a furtive shadow, the Ten Of Spades attacks the Elongated Man. Working together, the Black Canary, and the Elongated Man, subdue the Ten Of Spades. The Green Arrow is hospitalized, alongside Aquaman, Firestorm, the Nuclear Man, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Their brainwave activity continues to diminish. During the investigation, the Black Canary, and the Elongated Man were attacked by Derek Reston, the President of Megaform Industries.

Unbeknownst to all, Reston was under Hector Hammond's psychic control. Upon release, Reston had no memory of his past actions. The psychic essence of Professor Martin Stein confronts the psychic essence of Hector Hammond. The Black Canary interrogates the Ten Of Spades. Before the Ted of Spades can reveal too much information, Hammond shuts down the Ten Of Spades' mind. Prison guards erroneously believe that Hammond is pacified. In reality, the machine supposedly subduing Hammond's mind has shorted out. The Batman, the Black Canary, the Elongated Man, and the Flash approach the House of Cards. The Royal Flush Gang launches missiles at the Batplane. The Black Canary, the Elongated Man, and the Flash bail out.

The Batman flies evasive maneuvers, ultimately destroying the missile before they can strike the Batplane. The Batman joins his teammates, outside the House of Cards. The Flash gains entry to the House of Cards. The Elongated Man goes in first, and is surprised to see his wife, Sue Dibny. Upon passionately kissing Dibny, the Elongated Man realizes that she isn't his wife. The Elongated Man is struck down by the Queen Of Spades. The Flash beats the Queen Of Spades into unconsciousness. The Queen Of Spades is revealed to be Mona Taylor, the so-called "Queen Of Broadway". The Black Canary kicks through a wall, revealing a maze of playing cards. The Batman, the Black Canary, and the Flash split up to cover more ground.

The Batman is attacked by the King Of Spades, The Batman is overwhelmed by the King Of Spades' force of personality. The playing card walls, behind the Flash, collapse inward, targeting the Flash with their razor-sharp edges. Eluding the walls, the Flash slams into a dead end, knocking himself unconscious. The walls reconfigure their shape, boxing the Black Canary in. The walls begin to close in on the Black Canary. Using her Canary Cry, the Black Canary sings her way to freedom. The effort, though, leaves her exhausted. Easy prey for the Jack Of Spades. The Justice League of America are tied to rocket cards, and launched into the sky. The Jack Of Spades confronts the Ace Of Spades, revealing his knowledge that the Ace Of Spades is a robot.

Before the Ace Of Spades can murder the Jack Of Spades, the Ace Of Spades is destroyed by the Black Canary. The King and Queen of Spades turn on the Black Canary, only to be subdued by the Jack of Spades, The Batman, the Elongated Man, and the Flash are brought to the hospital. The Jack of Spades can provide no useful information to reverse the malady slowly killing the Justice League of America. Stein fashions a psychic body to battle against Hammond. Stein inflicts such great pain on Hammond, that Hammond neutralizes the radiation killing the Justice League of America. Weakened, Hammond withdraws. The Justice League of America recover. Firestorm, the Nuclear Man, questions Stein's strange pride, but Stein provides no answers.
