....Enter Darkseid!
Spoilers will follow.
I've been Looking forward to this for some time Now. It's well known fact that i am a greg pak fan, but when it comes to dakrseid i'm a little in the dark. However, I still would very much like to state my mind on this issue because i think it was fairly well written, and from what I've read upon Darksaid( No, Not Geoff John's work) it does seem to add up.
First of all, as always, we better get the art out of the way. No i though the art was really colorful and good, and i loved Darkseids design, and the general look the artist gave apokolipse. What i also really liked was the fact that Much of the story telling was done by the artist himself, which is always a pleasant plus. ( not to mention that the action is amazing here)
The story tries to deal with Darkseids Origin and i do think that it does a fairly good job of showing how the new gods were born, and more important how Darkseid emerged. greg pak works really well with this artist and it's what made the entrance so grand. the Transition and the collaboration between the creative team made this not only a great spectacle, but also an amazing one if i do say so myself. Moreover, I would say that darkseid is in-character here. Most people seem to Neglect the fact that Darkseid intellectual side was really well shown here. Trickster, one of the New ( new) Gods, was trying to run away from darkseid, and in the process though that he was actually out-witting him, and as i was reading this i do admit that i was annoyed but how event are unraveled here really surprised me. It would appear that Darkseid was using kayio( the trickster) to explore new worlds and see what it had to offer. This is a very good twist considering that it shows how much a new God like the trickster fears darkseid, and also how smart Darkseid really is. Because he Basically TRICKED the trickster, kinda shows how brilliant he is doesn't it?
I've heard people say that Darkseid really has no grand scheme but It seems completely reasonable to me that Someone as powerful as him would like to see what other worlds would have to offer him, and the Last Panel really does put a cap in the " he had No Plan at all" complaint.
On the other hand, this issue is not without flaws. While i understand that this is a One-Off but at a certain point in the book it felt extremely rushed, and while the artistic Visuals were really good it just changed the pace of the whole issue and kinda took away the enjoyment from me, but that's about the only complain i can come up with. This was the ONLY villain issue i enjoyed this week, honestly, the others were not so great.
