Judith Hunt

Judith Hunt's artwork includes fantasy illustration, licensed character design, picture book illustration, and comic books. Her first books included several children’s fantasy fairytale books for Gingerbread House. In 1989 she illustrated and co-wrote two Winnie the Pooh wordbooks, for EP Dutton.

Her first serious comic illustration work, Evangeline; she co-created and helped write with her then husband, Chuck Dixon. Comico first published Evangeline in 1984. Hunt changed publishers to First Comics and completed 3 more issues working with Ricardo Villagran in her studio. During this same time period she illustrated Andrew Gutelle's "What's a Gonzo" and "Baby Kermit's Birthday Surprise" for Jim Henson Associates in 1987. Hunt also created new model sheets, templates, and character designs of Raggedy Ann and Andy for MacMillan Publishing who needed a style more reminiscent of the original Johnny Gruelle instead of the Chuck Jones look.

From 1985-88, Judith Hunt acted as both agent and her own rep for other cartoonists. She completed several comics and other back-up work from Marvel, DC, and First Comics including Conan the King and Robotech Defenders besides continuing to do children’s books and licensed character work. Judith Hunt ceased working in comics in 1988 with her decision to work in-house for Highlights for Children in Honesdale, PA. She went on to illustrate educational work for Highlights for Children “Timbertoes” and do book covers and interior art for Boyd’s Mill Press, an affiliated company, until 2003.
