Journey into Mystery #643

It turns out (unless he's lying) that Kid Loki is actually Evil Loki!  He's been playing everyone all along.  Unless (again) he's lying when he says THAT.
 
This revelation (or new trick) took me completely aback.  I LOVE Kid Loki and his innocent, fresh-faced ways.  Having him turn back to his old self really turns me upside down and I'm not sure how I feel about this.  On the one hand, I love evil Loki too; I've always loved Loki.  But I really hate to see Kid Loki's recent personality go.  It was really one of the things I looked forward to the most every month out of all my comics.  But on the other hand, they were kind of running out of jokes, and it could have jumped the shark after a while.  But (again) I sort of feel it is a little manipulative in terms of writing, just trying to make a big twist event instead of continuing with a good character.
 
While the writing didn't completely win me over, the art really did.  With some very simple strokes, he changed Loki's face from wide-eyed and fun-loving to sinister and full of hate--without going over the top (no metaphoric twirling mustaches).  I thought it was a master stroke of drawing facial expression.  It felt like Evil Loki to look at him.
 
So in the end, I am hoping that this will lead to a new, innovative, creative look at his character.  Fingers crossed.  I would contrast it with this week's AvX, in which there were also big changes, and in which I also like many of the characters, but I could have cared less 5 minutes after reading it.  Whatever else, this story made me care about what happened, and I'm invested in its future.
 
EDIT: OK, turns out that he hadn't turned to evil Loki yet.  But, now in hindsight, what great foreshadowing for the finale of the series!
