This issue is a classic example of what I like to call 'power creep' the idea that as a series goes on a hero (or villain) gets more and more powers.  Loki causes his sword to become insubstantial - did you know he could do that? Well it doesn't really matter, he's portrayed as a sorcerer, so maybe Loki is allowed to get away with anything magic can do (i.e. anything).  But what about the Absorbing Man - a guy who Loki gave his power to? Well, not only can he turn into any substance he's near to...
