Joseph Gillain, known as Jijé, born January 13, 1914 in Gedinne and died June 19, 1980 in Versailles, was a Belgian scriptwriter and cartoonist. He is the initiator of what the world of comics designates as the school of Marcinelle, linked to Éditions Dupuis and the Journal de Spirou. Considered one of the fathers of Franco-Belgian comics, Jijé created or took over a large number of series. He is also a major author of Christian comics, through his biographies of Don Bosco, Charles de Foucauld or Bernadette Soubirous.
