@Crimson Eagle: LOL!
Jor-El
Character » Jor-El appears in 1061 issues.
Jor-El was a major Kryptonian scientist on the Kryptonian Science Council, the biological father of Superman, and the husband of Lara Lor-Van. He discovered the Phantom Zone and invented the Phantom Zone projector.
First Look At Russell Crowe as 'Jor-El' on the Set of 'Man of Steel'
The hair is nothing special - its his every day look. It looks like him at some convention with a half-assed plastic look. Very underwhelming. THIS is the what we're going to get? So far every thing I have seen about this looks sub-par. ALL the costumes have a plastic quality and none of the actors except for Amy Adams look terrible for their roles.
Are all the hate posts really towards Russell Crowe? I'm just sensing a "Marvel is better... Suck that DC!" fanboy motivation for some of the posts.

I love reading the comments after someone posts on-set photos of a superhero film, especially if it's costume-related. Everyone gets so angry!
Chill out, dudes...you know you're seeing the movie no matter how vehemently you complain about it!
If I do see it, because you know we all need ANOTHER Supes reboot/origin story like the country needs a triple-dip recession, if I DO see it, you will have to call me Man of Steal because there is no way in hell I'm paying to see this...
Ummm... Then don't see it? You can ignore this film and anything related to it, you know. I'm not really against any negative opinion but what's the point being all hating and stuff like that?@Wattup said:

I'm sorry, after seeing this pic, all I'll be able to see is Russell doing Russell things in a costume. The illusion is forever ruined.
I don't know why, but this is the funniest thing I've seen all day.
Not bad, I always perfered the clean, streamline look in the comics, as it gave the appearance of a more advanced civilation.
Crowe's costume is good, but all the little details and added things on itpull me out of the way Krypton looks and feels.
[Why the hell is Jor-El played by an Aussie?!?!?!? Krypton is full of ice! Not orange sand!]Whiny complaint inserted!

i dont like it. get rid of the big shoulder armour.
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!
I wonder if Jor-El will be dipicted the same way he was in the Last Days of Krypton just as I hope the landscape will be. The ceremonial white pastor look was fine for its day, but when people realize Zod breathed in space everything goes out the window. I scoff whenever I see the Kryptonians arrive on earth and become confused more by the water and lush, green environment than their abilities.
i can not wait, but the outfit reminds me of a knight... jor el was a scientist, not killing krypotonian knights.
DC better hope this movie rocks. The only good DC movies so far have been Batman Begins, and Dark Knight. Green Lantern was basically a flop and it seems that they're gonna have to make a splash if they wanna compete with all the upcoming Marvel films
I think it look great. Better than having to look at Russel Crowe in a white turtleneck like the original Jor El had.
It kind of looks like the armor Aragorn wore in ROTK to the Black Gate. I guess the S-shield is going to be the El family crest again.
What are you on? Crowe is one of the best actors of the current age. He and Hopkins have been nominated for, and won the same amount of Best Actor Oscars.@mister garbage said:
Marvel got Anthony Hopkins as Odin...
The best DC could muster was Russell Crowe as Jor-El?
My thoughts exactly! Far cry from Marlon Brando too.

Thank you! And while I love Anthony Hopkins and Rene Russo, I thought Thor was mediocre at best. The entire forced romance with Natalie Portman was beyond boring. I didn't love Green Lantern either and thought it was about on the same level as Thor in regard to overall feeling. Both spent too much time on earth and too little time doing what made them super.
What are you on? Crowe is one of the best actors of the current age. He and Hopkins have been nominated for, and won the same amount of Best Actor Oscars.Exactly! Thank you FTB! I don't know where the Crowe hate comes from. Some people are just nitpicking and would say no good thing about this movie even before it's released.
@FadeToBlackBolt said:So damn true. I don't understand why everyone is bitching so vehemently about this yet can't stop fanboying over Avengers. This film is shaping up to be amazing, they've not set a foot wrong so far, and yet people are acting like it's directed by Joel Schumacher. Idiots. What are you on? Oh how I hate all of these on set pics and captured footage. Youtube is ruining the suspense of waiting for a movie to come out. Cannot wait for a teaser trailer to come out just to give us a feel for the tone of the movie.
And just as a point........almost everyone hated the look of the Asgardian wardrobe when set pics for Thor were coming out. I'm sure people are going to say "no I didn't. I was a fan the entire time" but that would be bs. things just do not look good until editing. even the pics from the new batman film look horrible.
But since I'm already posting I will say that I agree with most the shoulder pads are a bit too much however it does go in-line with the idea that the Birthright origin is a huge influence on this film, more specifically the idea of tribal colors and patterns. Krypton is an advanced civilization and all but does that mean it has to have form fitting, glowing white and black robes? Why can't an advanced civilization have all of its technology and yet keep all of its traditional look and clothing? I think back to tv shows like Stargate SG-1 where the Gao'uld were much more technologically advanced than humans but still had an ancient egyptian look to them and it completely worked. Thor and his people have better technology than humans yet wear armor and wield hammers and swords. Why can't Krypton be the same way? Why can't these people have retained the family symbols and clothing that distinguished them in the past? I think that adds a great deal of depth to a planet that most of the time even comic book readers don't know alot about because since the beginning kryptonians are all but dead. If some of the movie is going to take place on Krypton, or at least be flashbacks, then giving Krypton the best look and most depth possible helps to solidify in the viewers mind just what these people were like.
Also the fact that Kal's uniform as Superman is directly influenced by Jor-El's look here. We can see the symbol, same blue suit underneath the grey, the same style boots (even though Jor-El's are blue), and the same style cape. So right there we build on the idea that Superman is wearing what he does as a tribute to his kryptonian heritage.
If you take a moment to think about this you can see the costume works perfectly into Synder and Nolan's (can't forget him in this project right batman begins and dark knight fanatics) idea for this reboot.
