It could be a good movie, sure the trailer looks silly, and Jonah Hex was likely one of the more unrealistic choices to go when it came to making a movie based off a dc character, none the less it could succeed if Warner brothers bother to promote the darn thing.
Jonah Hex
Character » Jonah Hex appears in 522 issues.
A Civil War veteran turned bounty hunter, Jonah Hex's disfigured face and boorish personality don't win him many friends, but his code of honor and expert marksmanship skills means he's always willing to fight for and protect the innocent and dispense lethal justice.
Why is warner brothers failing to promote Jonah Hex
They probably dont think its going to be a hit. Lets face it: Not many outside the comics community know who Hex is. He's not a household name, and western movies(especially ones with supernatural overtones) are not that popular right now. Plus, to me, the movie doesn't look to good so far. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Hex fan, but it just does not look good. Plus, Megan Fox is in it, and her acting skills lower the movie at least 50 points for me
I might give it a shot when it comes out. Then again I pretty much go to the movies every week over the summer so there's a good chance. But yeah I hope DC isn't pinning their movie hopes on Hex. Like if it doesn't do well they better not cancel any other movies they just haven't told us about yet. Though if it does well they really gotta step up and give us Wonder Woman and Flash.
Yeah but if they at least bother to promote it at all (Which they haven't), then maybe it could actually get somewhere.
I dunno about westerns not being big right now. I think it's quite the opposite, what with Red Dead Redemption coming out on Tuesday, and... OK, maybe westerns aren't the next big thing yet... But I want them to be. I'll give the movie a chance.

I don't read, or have red any of the Hex series, however the trailer I watched on CV did give me something to maybe read the 1st issue. And being DC I'll go and see it regardless.
Actually I quite aware of that, Warner Bros pretty much fails when it comes to making/ promoting a comic book film that isn't Batman and occasionally Superman.
I don't think it will do that well in theaters, just not sure how well it will stack up with the competition. Seems like it would have been better as a late summer movie where there is very little for it to go against. It goes up against Toy Story 3 with A-Team the week before. I figured that A-Team will have around a 10-15 Mil in it's second week after a really good first week. Toy Story 3 will do crazy numbers which will leave Hex at possibly lower than A-Team so it debuting at No. 3 which is why the budget for marketing isn't ramping up till the June where they can get it into peoples minds. Figure spend the money for people who don't want to see Toy Story 3 and may have already seen A-Team for their action movie fix. Also none of the actors have really headlined an action movie. Plus it is a western which is the last time they had a movie like that it was Wild Wild West with Will Smith, they don't have Will Smith. Megan Fox didn't do well with her last movie either as far as trying to carry it, Megan's Body.
So, expect marketing blitz in June where it will be more focused. $50 Mil budget means it is a low budget big budget movie, so if it at least makes $50 Mil in 3 weeks, it should be alright.

Called it... did worse than I thought. I thought their maybe a possibility of the movie making it's budget back in 3 weeks... I highly doubt that and it will likely be dropped from many movie theaters next week or just smaller showings. Between Knight & Day, Grownups and last movies like Toy Story 3, Shrek 4, Karate Kid and A-Team, it wont really have many spots to make much money back. I would also expect that this movie will be rushed to DVD and blu-ray, for a September release which is pretty much a quick turn around.
