Clayface gets his own fanclub
The Story:
Basil Karlo, also known as Clayface used to be an actor that couldn't find fame within the film business, which drove him to his murderous killing spree and becoming the monsterous Clayface. Still dwelling on his hopes of wishing to find fame as an actor with the horror flick he played in, which is known as The Terror. Clayface would go on a short killing spree when he felt that his film wasn't getting the respect that he thought it should deserve. When entering the theater that was playing The Terror, Clayface realized that his wish did come true when he realized that a group of young teenagers formed a fan club for Basil Karlo, Clayface did reach fame, but in a different and much more sinister way. Clayface and his fanclub would participate in one of Gothams most grizzly crimes that would have Basil's name reach fame.
The Good:
- The artwork was good for me, despite its cartoonish look, I actually liked it when I wasn't trying to be greedy with the art and enjoy it for the way it is. Most of all I liked how the faces on the back of Clayface was shown, the victims of Clayface being absorbed or suffering with their frozen expressions or possibly moving, which would make it much more creepier. Its amazing because Clayface is a character that is really easy to draw out, and the artist did but some attention to Clayface in the issue.
- The story was great for me, I loved it. Once again, it was creepy how the events play out with this issue. For me personally, cults scare the crap out of me, and you may not believe that there are people crazy enough to do the things these kids do in this issue, but there are. If you dont believe me, check out the Heavens Gate incident, these people would be much more unbelievable than the kids in this issue.
The Bad:
- Even though the artwork was good, there was a scene where Batman gets punched in the chin and his nose gets busted.
The Ugly:
none
Conclusion:
I have my own reasons for my five star rating, because this book actually got me more interested in the DC universe and I was actually interested in Basil Karlos character. Different from the other Jokers Asylum II issues, I wasn't sure about Clayface's story because at first I couldn't make out what was going on with films, fans, monsters, and it all would come together when I remembered about cult incidents that ive read about and after reading Basil Karlos biography.
You may disagree with the five star rating, but for me personally, its not EPIC, but it is very rare for me.
Naturally I would rate this issue 4/5 stars because I feel that this issue is more focused within its own universe, hardcore Batman fans, and longterm comic fans instead of new fans who probably wouldn't understand whats happening.
I would say pick it up, but if you dont know who Basil Karlo is, a Marvel reader, or when you hear the name Clayface and think of the Batman animated series Clayface like myself, then it would be best to avoid this issue because you may not be satisfied and wouldn't understand whats going on.
Here's a video review I did of this issue and it may give you a much more detailed look into this comic.
I do have some spoilers, but how the events turn out with this issue I decided to leave out incase your ineterested in buying this issue.
