The Devil's Apprentice
John Crow is the son-in-law of Lydia Garcia. He is a great warrior, perhaps one of the greatest of his age. As the leader of the Crow Grendel clan, it was his right, using the technology of the age, to become pregnant. When he is almost ready to give birth, vampires attack. They kill almost all his clan, and mortally wound him. Knowing he is about to die, he asks Lydia to cut the baby out of him before he turns into a vampire. She agrees, and does so. The baby has red eyes like a vampire, but is otherwise human. After John turns into a vampire, he tries to catch Lydia, but fails, and runs off into the wilderness.
For the next 18 years, Lydia trains the baby, Aaron, to become a great warrior, so that he can kill his father. John, however, has no idea Aaron is around; being a vampire slowly takes away your memory.
John eventually leads an attack against Lydia's new clan's ranch. Not recognizing Aaron, he catches him and is about to kill him when Lydia saves Aaron. John kills Lydia but runs away after seeing his horse from many years ago, the memory freaking him out.
John goes back at his base, a cave with train tracks and a hidden train. The train has a nuclear missile on one of its cars. John's memory is growing foggier and foggier. He knows he has a plan, something to do with Innocent XLII's plan to destroy the sun, but can no longer remember exactly what it is.
Aaron tracks John down over many days and finds the cave. He starts killing his vampire minions. John comes out and attacks Aaron, wounding one of his eyes. Aaron tells him that he is his son. They battle, but Aaron is hard pressed to survive considering John's own skills and vampire powers. They get on the train, which starts moving. When it gets out in the sun, John is startled and Aaron is able to kill him. The train crashes and Aaron leaves to find a new life.
Powers and Abilities
John Crow has the standard powers of a vampire in the Grendel universe, including enhanced speed and strength. Sunlight weakens him. He can turn into a crow.
