The Epic Continues!
Devin Grayson and Phil Jimenez have crafted a masterpiece. This is an epic story. Batman has gathered the League on Titans Island to free them. The shocking reveal at the end of the first issue is that Victor Stone, Cyborg has become more machine than man; with one driving force: rebuild his family.
Collect Titans.
Think V'ger from Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Victor begins assimilating the Moon and the Justice League Watchtower above, and collecting every Titan down below on Titans Island.
Raven and Gar provide a huge exposition dump at the beginning of the issue, explaining Victor's change from Cyborg to Cyberion Technis to Planet Cyberion. All of it beautifully rendered by Jimenez. It is eye-candy as he continues to add the data-files on all of the Titans. There is a fantastic homage to George Pérez's JLA/Avengers: Jimenez takes a page to pit the JLA and Titans face to face. It's the answer to Orion's question to Gar: "You and what army?"
This one.
Even though Kyle and Ray Palmer were Titans, they side with the adults of the League. Wally sides with his Titans clan. The conflict surrounds Victor's soul. Restoring his humanity.
Even though it's an awesome JLA/Titans slugfest, it really comes down to Dick and Bruce. The age old coming of age and each one of the Titans coming out of the long shadow of their mentors. That, and The Breakfast Club that is the Teen and New Teen Titans.
It's a shame that there wasn't more of an annual JLA/Titans team-up crossover event like the JSA/JLA fall classics.
This makes up for that. Big time.
