Despero is back on the scene and only Jonn and Aquaman are on hand to try and contain him. The reason is, Despero has enabled the Secret Society of Super Villains to remember that they once discovered the secret identitied of the JLA. Although Zatanna used her magic to make them forget, the decision split the League in two and when Batman tried to intervene, his memory of the event was mind wiped as well.

Having managed to save Lois Lane from the Secret Society of Super Villains, the JLA now have to decide what to do with their unconscious captives. Hawkman demands the League vote on whether they mindwipe the SSOSV. He votes yes and is supported by Green Arrow and Flash, while Superman, Green Lantern and Black Canary vote no. The casting vote therefore rests with Zatanna, but she refuses to even consider it and instantly resigns from the League, leaving to find refuge on Paradise Island with Wonder Woman.

Meanwhile, the League returns to the Watchtower with the SSOSV in tow, to discover their HQ partially wrecked due to the earlier Jonn / Despero battle. Talking of Despero, he now turns up at the Batcave having already taken mind control of Aquaman and Jonn - and soon has Batman under his spell as well.
