James Shooter is a comic book writer, occasional fill-in artist, editor, and publisher. He worked at Marvel Comics for almost 25 years, before (co-)founding Valiant Comics, Defiant Comics, and Broadway Comics. He has also appeared as a character in a number of stories.
If memory serves me right, Shooter was editor in chief when Marvel launched their under-hyped "New Universe" titles in the 1980's. The only success of the 7 or 8 new titles launched (I can't remember them all) was the 'Nam. As the title suggests it was based in the Viet Nam war and was a surprise best selling comic for some time.
However, the failure of the other titles was (I think) the cause of Shooter's downfall as far as Marvel was concerned. I don't know about anything other than that.
