Lucienne Fonvieille had worked at French publishing house Mon Journal (a.k.a. Aventures & Voyages) from 1958 to 1963. Deciding to form his own publishing company, he founded Jeunesse & Vacances (Youth & Holiday), which launched its first title, Cartouche et Robin des Bois in September 1964. As time passed, Jeanesse & Vacances began reprinting foreign strips translated into French, most notably the British strip Robot Archie, first in Atoll and then his own title, Archie. The company also adapted the adventures of German space hero Perry Rhodan into comics in the title Perry le Fantastique. However, mounting costs saw page numbers drop and prices rise on Jeanesse & Vacances’ titles, and in turn sales dropped. The company ceased publishing in 1981.
