    Jellal Fernandes was once a slave at the tower of Heaven along with Erza Scarlet until he was manipulated by Ultear Milkovich or what he believed to be Zeref's ghost and attempted to recreate the R-System to resurrect the black wizard, Zeref. He was defeated by Natsu Dragneel and the Tower of Heaven was destroyed. Jellal currently created an independent guild named Crime Sorciere to hunt down dark guilds, and is helping Fairy Tail in their fight against the Alvarez Empire.
