what jean as the phoenix needs is a character that is a complete rival with the phoenix, lets say this character is called the Cygnus force (phoenix-fire cygnus-water)
they can have a whole story arc of jean trying to defeat the cygnus and they can broaden their horizon like the cygnus hides its self as a mortal on some distant planet jean reincarnates their searches for the cygnus meet new people a new love interest
