In a matter of preference, I do love Rachel Summers...she was the my core character that brought me closer to the x-men comics before everyone else.
 
I love her storyline and feel bad that they re-con the Askani timeline. I wouldn't mind that she already died and had her spirit wondering around different timelines.

honestly... I think she will just be like her mom but evolving into something else.

I don't know if its canon but I do believe that Rachel Summers is really the daughter of the Phoenix (as in the Phoenix Force itself) She is an anomaly because how can a force have daughter right? It has been established that she is the only one of her kind in all the omniverse...those who are named like her is not really her equivalent, thus she is really unique.

I give this one to Rachel hands down.  
 
Jean's character has had so many ups and downs (not that Rachel hasn't) but at least Rachel hasn't "died" as many times.
While I'm not the biggest Morrison X-Men fan I do agree with his statement that she & Scott had gotten boring as Marvel would not go to the next step with them (making them parents thus... god forbid, aging them).  Fortunately it's never taken killing her to get fans to want Rachel back.

I've never cared to compare the two in terms of what they're capable of.  But I've generally preferred the stories involving Rachel over Jean.
