The Truth is Revealed in The Conclusion of Kings of Earth and Sky
I just started reading this series and its been a lot of fun. Our hero, the earnest but valiant Jack Frost is a joy to follow, carelessly taking on any challenge with the help of rational sidekick, MacDuff the owl. I enjoy these type of characters who for the most part play the classical hero role without taking themselves so seriously. This particular issue picks up Jack facing the scourge of the City of Landfall, the Empyrean. Jack has been commissioned by Landfall's king to end the Empyrean's virgin and gold-stealing reign of terror. Armed with the only weapon capable of slaying the creature, an enchanted blade known as the Fulminate, Jack is prepared to carry out his mission.
Turns out this Empyrean is not what he was accused of being, and that's when the story really picks up. We get an shocking yet humorous revelation leading to the battle we've been waiting for, just not how we expected. Once Jack handles the matter at the Empyrean's lair, he heads back down tolandfall to get somne questions answered. You feel a little bad for Jack as the truth further disillusions him, but also leaves him with a big decision to make. This issue provides a satisfying conclusion and clears you palate for the next arc.
As a stand alone this is good, but works much better with a little back reading. Since Jack Frost is a character any fan of action and comedy stories, particularly about heroes, I 'd say this is worth a read for anyone.
