    Iron Man

Character » Iron Man appears in 11191 issues.

Tony Stark was the arrogant son of wealthy, weapon manufacturer Howard Stark. Tony cared only about himself, but he would have a change of heart after he was kidnapped by terrorists and gravely injured. Pressured to create a weapon of mass destruction, Stark instead created a suit of armor powerful enough for him to escape. Tony used his vast resources and intellect to make the world a better place as The Invincible Iron Man. Stark's super hero identity led him to become a founding member of the Avengers.

Over the course of the last five years, Iron Man has gone from C-list to an A-list hero, and is now a recognizable figure almost up there with the like of Bruce, Clark, and Petey.. However, what's holding him back is his crappy generic villains. With the exception of Mandarin, Iron Man's villains are pretty much a bunch of different guys in armor, and are very bland and uninteresting. I think the main reason the Iron Man series got progressively worse, is because of his lack of interesting villains that aren't one dimensional. At this point, I don't think any revamps or redesigns can save his rogues gallery. Tony needs a totally new and original set of foes, ones that are more anti-theses of who Tony is.. Maybe I'm being too hard on them though .What do you think?

Bump,He has good interesting villains some of them may be similar powers wise but there personality’s and origins are what separates them from being the same Eg Titanium Man and Crimson Dynamo being similar powers wise but having origins and personality’s which make them unique.

They definitely need a comeback. I've gone through most of Tony's rogues gallery and some are a hit or miss. Blizzard was portrayed as mostly fodder up until 2013 when he became an inhuman. Iron monger was decent since he messed with Tony for a while even after his death, although he's been dead for ages. Fin Fang Foom is great and has been for quite some time. The Mandarin really needs a push IMO, dudes a pretty good arch nemesis but he isn't that recognized compared to guys like the Red Skull or Dr Doom. Melter is kinda just a generic D list bad guy and got killed ages ago by Scourge of the Underworld. Controller is pretty powerful having contended with guys like Captain Marvel, Iron man, Avengers etc. Whiplash (Vanko) had a nice origin and look, but like Blizzard he's mostly fodder and mostly struggles with street levelers and not really posing a threat to anyone above that (Even getting fodderized with absolute ease by The Thing) Titanium man hasn't been threatening in some time and is pretty inconsistent (Struggling with Iron Spider and getting wrecked by a upgraded Scorpion)

Crimson Dynamo seems to be a member of Winter Guard and isn't really a Iron man villain these days. Spymaster is a jobber and doesn't seem to really be that much of a threat (except for maybe in Infinity heist) Ghost is pretty good, but IIRC Tony has built in measures to prevent him from phasing him so he's not that powerful these days. Ultimo is a pretty nice foe for Tony, being someone he can't defeat individually and someone he needs help/prep in order to defeat. Don't know much about guys like Madame Masque, Maulers, Vibro etc.

To be honest the idea of making more diverse Tony vilains appeal to me a lot

maybe they could challenge him in a bunch o different ways. The may problem of the current vilains is that they are his foils by the most obvious way, the literal armor

It would be interesting for him to have some alien vilains. This would make Tony struggle against other tech viable. Maybe they come from a society a lot like marvel 99 where powerful enterprises rule the world and the guy received a stark like origin but got more warlike.

Other type of vilain that i would like to showcase as him are the evil genious type. Give him someone to struggle against what he can´t outright punch. Better yet give him a vilain who is a genious and a telepath. Maybe have him made the AIM as a real threat by always been two steps above Tony by reading his mind. Maybe even make many inteligent vilains (mad thinker, Leader etc) control AIM and make a council against stark

Magic seems odd at first but i think it´s a must. Highlities how even tho he is insanely smart he don´t know everything and can always be brought down from high.

Kang seems an interesting, if obvious idea. Tony´s a futurist and so he fighting against someone who kind of is his legacy has an interesting touch. Other rich people like obliviete seem interesting too.

Give him a brute force vilain so we can showcase Tony´s cunning and versatility.

And maybe let Tony stark as real grey and not push him to be a vilain in anything other than name and don´t play with that idea

Wow, no mention of Technovore. That's a shame. At the end of the day, Iron Man is just a modern day knight, or at least he started off that way. Perhaps the key to him getting new, and better villains is by the comics embracing his knight similarities, and all the possibilities that come with it.
