It's hard to believe that production for Iron Man 3 is already well underway, but it is; and the latest images are proof of that. Earlier today we got our first look at some Iron Man 3 concept art, as well as a peek at actor Robert Downey Jr. standing on a pedestal, looking out at the different suits he's developed over the years. Pretty soon though, Tony Stark won't be needing that collection of suits; he'll have his technology really engrained in him.

The upcoming third Iron Man film is said to be based on Warren Ellis' "Extremis" story arc, where Tony Stark literally injects himself with the technology that he developed; making him and the suit truly "one." The latest picture is sort of indicative of that, and it's the first time we see Stark in a movie wearing only part of the suit. As you can see, he's got one some of the suit on his hand and forearm, and the other on his leg and calf. Question remains, what's with those guys shooting at him?

Actually just from the arm it looks more like bleeding edge, which had the gold back hand, extremis had the red, but then again that's something that isn't crucial to either. Both armors is awesome, but I think they will use Extremis as a tag line for it, lets face it, it sounds cooler.

My body is getting ready for some Iron Man 3 ! After the Avengers i'm really looking foward to the sequels to Thor and Cap America..It's actually pretty incredible that we are finally seeing all these cool cross-overs coming together this way ! The groundwork has been done, now let's see these characters interact like they do in the comics ! Marvel has done good, and now thanks to Avengers HUGE success things are looking better than ever.

If only Marvel could get back those Spider-man rights...Just imagine: Spidey showing up in Avengers 2 ? Awesome.

I was hoping for the bleeding edge armour.....love to see that on the big screen and I always thought it made sense to have a armour he could use at anywhere....

I thought extremis only stored the under layers in the hollows of his bones. Not the entire armour, as this might show. But I have no idea how the rest of the armour fit onto him afterwards.

I don't get how all this extremis stuff works, but i love that they're using it.

So its not Nano's that form the armor around him but it comes out of his body? i realy never understood it lol doesnt realy make sense that it comes out of him. but him controling the suit with is mind sound ok.

can someone explain Tony being bonded with his armor like in Extremis. Is it still an exoskeleton or is it on his bones or simply under his skin. I dont really get it.

I like this.

Makes sense for the development (I think G-Man did an article on it) and having Stark finally have the military after him after refusing to hand over the suit makes sense. I would like a cameo from one of the Avengers though - Like Cap opposing the decision alongside Rhodey, or Banner showing concern from wherever he is currently.

with the Extremis armor all of the controls and the under suit was stored in the hollows of his bones...the actual suit was separate and he was able to telepathically summon the armor and put it on with no aid from any other machines....but with the Bleeding Edge armor which is a newer version of the Extremis armor everything is stored in the hollows of his bones including the armor...the armor itself is very much like the 90's Modular Armor where it can adapt to different situations except with the Modular Armor it had external attachments that Tony would have to attach to the armor for different situations like underwater or space gear....the Bleeding Edge uses nanotechnology to build all of that stuff on the fly

Enough about the rest of them and bring on a new Hulk movie......ahem....back to this article the pic looks good but I will have to go look at the "Extremis" storyline to know if that is good or not. lol

Marvel is 6 for 6 now in my opinion. They have carte blanche and I refuse to complain about anything as they proved me wrong anytime I did. Until they royally screw up, they're golden. I can't say that about anyone else.

If it doesn't have Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner make a cameo, I'll be very disappointed.

It certainly looks closer to the Bleeding Edge armor in terms of design. It's a bit more form fitting and less bulky. Plus that concept art makes it look like he's got the Hyper Velocity program running and is moving much faster with all the blurring going on around him.

I never read Extremis but this could get me to look into it. Not sure how well it's going to translate to the big screen from what I know it seems even a little out there even for a Comic Movie.

@KainScion: really? what would make you think that? I'm not saying it wouldn't be cool, but no way in hell are they using the whole story. It'll be like other comic movies. They'll use parts for insperation. Ben Kingsley is the Manderin. Kingsley isn't even Asian. THANK GOD IT'S KINGSLEY THO. They can act anything. They could have made him Asian and it would have worked. His Ghandi was flawless. If they were planning on using someone of the age as Kingsley, I would have liked to see the Chinese guy who played David Lo' Pan from Big Trouble in Little China.

Nope. It is 2012, the years when some guys like in the amazing spider-man moving can use a technology which is 10 years old from spider-man 2 (the cool web slinging) because they are lazy.

Extremis might have been my favorite Iron Man story arc.

He concept art has raised the expectations... Extremis arc is probably a great choice. I am still in midway reading it...

The Extremis armour and the Mandarin deserve to be in Iron Man 3. It wouldn't be complete without them!

sorry I couldn't figure out how to reduce the image size, but this seems to be the new armor, doesn't look like extremis or bleeding edge, something new or they're just changing the look and it really is one of the two
