Iron Man begins wading through the wreckage at Stark International, Long Island Division, left over from his battle with the Ghost. He comes upon Dr. Dillon's body. She is close to death due to her injuries after the Living Lazer broke free of his imprisonment and attacked her. Iron Man unmasks, confirming what Dr. Dillon already knew, that he is in fact Tony Stark. She passes away in his arms.
Tony sees Doc Samson at the funeral but ignores him, not wishing to speak to anyone. He tries to get on with business but is haunted by guilt over Dr. Dillon's death, feeling that their experiment was not worth any loss of life.
He is again antagonized by Abbot Sinclair (secretly the Spymaster) at a ball for the New York Governor. Afterwards, Doc Samson confronts Tony at his office. The two argue about the death of Dr. Dillon and Iron Man's struggle to evolve past old conflicts. Samson warns him not to seek revenge.
Tony recieves a call from Stark International security and is notified that during their analysis of the battle between Iron Man and the Ghost they picked up a lot of cross-chatter during their frequency scans. Iron Man examines the information and discovers a conversation between Ghost and Spymaster, now realizing that Spymaster has been behind the recent attacks. He tracks the call and sets out to confront his enemy. Once at the location of the call signal he is ambushed by Spymaster who had planned the entire encounter...
