    Literally just like a mist.  A light smoke.  They're created from the Terrigen Crystals when they're mixed with water.

    Yes. He repeatedly exposed himself and Luna to the mists, then embedded the shards of the remaining crystals into his skin.

    Yeah, that was pretty creepy (to put it lightly).  Imagine you're just a kid and you rarely see your father.  You miss him like crazy, even though the last time he exposed you to a mist that transforms your whole genetics &  the way you see the world... Then when you finally do get to see your father again, he's descended almost into madness and pierced himself with the holy crystals that your race have been searching for.  'Creepy' doesn't begin to describe it.  Maybe 'unsettling' and 'disturbing' would do better...
