fresh0133's Incredible Hercules #134 - W.W.T.D.? review

Another series you're probably missing out on.

Instead of the Incredible Hercules this should probably be called the Irresponsible Hercules.

Last Issue Herc was set up by Malekith, former king of the Drow (dark elves) and follwer of Loki, disguised as Balder  to impersonate Thor, who is exiled from Asgard currently, and take down the current Drow queen Alfyse for supposed agression towards the new Asgard, in typical Herc fasion he jumps right into the job without thinking it over too much for a chance to prove he can out Thor Thor, dragging his de-aged amnesiac father Zeus along for the ride.

Yes this series is as ridiculous as that sounds.

But it's ridiculous in a good way.  Without his usual running buddy Amadeous Cho along for the ride to be the voice of "reason", I put that in quotes because sometime Amadeous can get just as out there as Herc, Herc is at his brash, rude, self centered best.  He's a god of action, no need to think things through when you can just smash your way to victory, and when you have obtained victory, no reason not to have a good time and drink every thing in sight and partake in what ever pleasure presents itself.

This issue contains so much concentrated hilarity I dare you to read it and not laugh out loud at what Herc does.

From the opening page where you get Herc cutting down Thor for his wardrobe choises you start to get an idea of what you're in for.

From attacking a group of trolls for no other reason than they're trolls, with Pak and Van Lente's trademark hilarious sound effects in tact as usual, Herc and Zeus' running commentary with each other, Herc's three tests to prove he's the real Thor to Alfyse (there's an Asgardian sized Anvil, a game of three leveled Chess, and a test of character) and Herc's solutions or lack there of ("Two out of Three ain't bad, all hail the Mighty Thor!"), to the ultimate results of Herc's self indulgences, honestly I don't think there's a page in this comic that didn't have me chuckling at one thing or another, which is pretty standard fair for this book.

The art fits the tone of the book perfectly, you can't take this book seriously, it's meant to be fun and it delivers in every way, and the art  by Reilly Brown draws every thing Pak and Van Lente script out in a half real half cartoonish manner that pulls the eyes along every panel smoothly and really adds to the overall tone of this book.

Comics don't get any more fun than the Incredible Hercules, you owe it to yourself the six bucks it will cost to pick up the first two issues of "The Replacement Thor" arc, issues 132 and 134 if for nothing else than the the laughs you'll recieve over the time it takes you to read the issues, and it will be near continuous.

If you actually did read this issue and didn't just about die from laughter at that last page and the thought of what's about to happen in this book there's no helping you.
