Good Filler
In this issue, some additional characterization is added to Andrew and we get a little bit of background on Tig, the vampire hunter who joined up with the team last issue. Also, John Constantine.
The Good
1) The art continues to be absolutely amazing in this series.
2) Andrew is getting to be a really cool character. His interaction with another vampire in this issue is both interesting and saddening.
3) I'm not a huge Constantine fan, but I read silk cuts' review up there and can understand why some might be upset by the way he's portrayed in this book. I'm not, though, and I thought it was fun seeing him here.
The Bad
1) A lot of this book's events seem to hinge on huge coincidences. I think they could've got a lot more out of the revelation with Tig in this issue if they had run with it a bit more instead of just getting it all out there on one page. Hopefully they'll go somewhere with this in the next few issues. It's just that in a book with so few characters, I feel like they should be slow-rolling the reveals a little more.
2) I guess I don't really understand Andrew's interaction with Constantine in this issue, or why it went down the way it did. Seems like they're on the same side. Maybe I'm just a pragmatist.
The Verdict
I'm really enjoying this book. Despite the second issue which was a complete waste of time, this has been one of the most consistently well-done books of the new 52 for me. I've been generally disappointed with the new 52's superhero books, but the rest have all been great for the most part. If you haven't been reading this book, this issue is as good a place as any to check it out.
