    Plot

As Whoville is getting prepared for the celebration of Christmas, a What known as the Grinch has a distaste for Christmas. He lives at Mount Crumpit with his dog, Max. Cindy Lou Who was curious about the Grinch and wanted him to understand that Christmas isn't about materialism compared to what Mayor Augustus May-Who and the other Whos believed. Cindy learned from the Grinch's adoptive mothers that he was raised by them and grew up to be a student who dated Martha May Whovier. The Grinch wanted to give Martha a Christmas angel. Due to bullying from the other Whos, especially future mayor Augustus May-Who, the Grinch cut himself with a razor and returned to school the day after. Once one of them said "Look at that hack job", the Whos were laughing away, infuriating the Grinch as he destroyed Martha's present. Cindy talked to the Mayor as she wanted to nominate the Grinch as Cheermeister for the Whobilation. Cindy went to Mount Crumpit and invited the Grinch. The Grinch didn't want to join at first, but changed his mind. He was fed pudding, fruitcake and fudge for the Whobilation. As the Whos were giving their gifts, the Mayor gave the Grinch the razor that the Grinch cut himself years ago. The Grinch went on a rant about how the Mayor wanted the Whos to accept Christmas for materialism and not family reunions. The Grinch burned down the Whos' Christmas tree and went back to Mount Crumpit. The Grinch decided to steal Christmas by dressing up as Santa Claus as payback for being bullied at school. He and Max first stopped at Cindy Lou Who's house, where he took everything inside the house. Cindy saw him stuff up the tree and gave the Grinch a sense of kindness. Nevertheless, he stole from every other house in Whoville and took his sleigh to the top of Mount Crumpit as a means to dump the collection. As he was about to dump the bag, he heard the Whos from Whoville singing and figured out that the Whos are happy that he stole Christmas. As a result, the Grinch's heart grew three sizes. Cindy Lou Who walked up Mount Crumpit and helped the Grinch and Max go back to Whoville and apologize to the town for stealing Christmas. The Grinch held a Christmas party at Mount Crumpit with his date Martha May Whovier, Max and Cindy Lou Who.

    Reception

While the 1966 animated Chuck Jones special is loved in it's own right, the 2000 live-action Ron Howard film became a classic for millennials. Jim Carrey's performance as the Grinch was universally praised as well as his makeup, with the film winning Best Makeup at the 2000 Academy Awards. Contemporary critics didn't like the screenplay, semi-dark tone and innuendoes. The scene where the cat tackles the Grinch was reused for the 2018 cartoon.

The only good live-action Dr. Seuss movie. 0

I'd rather watch this over The Cat in the Hat. It's amazing and Jim Carrey did a great job as the Grinch! Taylor Momsen, Molly Shannon, Bill Irwin and Christine Baranski also did a great job! It is one of my favorite Christmas movies of the 2000s. It did deserve the Best Makeup Award at the Oscars....
