Following their defeat of the Master, the Heroes fight on two fronts to save the lives of Iron Fist and Jim Hammond! Plus, are Hercules and Iron Fist leaving the Heroes for Hire?
Having defeated the Master and escaping his space-bound Citadel, the Heroes for Hire plummet toward Earth in three escape pods. Cushioned from the hard impact of the landing by the pods' interiors, the team emerges unscathed, except for Danny Rand (Iron Fist) and Jim Hammond. In order to save Luke Cage's life, Fist had imparted his chi, or life energy, into Luke's body, leaving himself seemingly dead. The android Hammond was deactivated when it was discovered the Master had placed a controlling device within his artificial body. Black Knight and Thena go airborne to rush Danny to the headquarters of Oracle, Inc.
Later, in the medical lab, Dr. Jane Foster gives her diagnosis to Luke, Jennifer Walters (She-Hulk), Dane Whitman (Black Knight),Thena, Hercules and White Tiger. She can't find anything physically wrong with Danny, but says it's as if the life's gone out of him. Tiger expresses her anger toward Luke for having played a traitor in their recent adventure, but is held back by the others. Jen then has an idea and leaves to make phone call.
Dane turns his attention to Hammond, who lies inert in the lab where he can be examined. He devises a plan to have Ant-Man (Scott Lang) shrink down and enter the android's body to search for the control device, while Thena maintains psychic contact with him.
Back at the infirmary, Misty Knight and Colleen Wing have arrived to see Danny. Misty is heartbroken at the possibility of losing him. The group then hear drumbeats and witness the arrival of Jericho Drumm a.k.a. Brother Voodoo, summoned by Jen. He explains he can use his mystic skills to withdraw some life force from each of them to attempt to reignite the spark of life in Danny's body. He warns that the ritual has to be precise, as it could leave Danny dead, or it could kill them all. Luke, Misty, Colleen and Tiger agree to participate in the ritual.
At the lab, Ant-Man travels through Hammond's system, capturing what he sees on a video camera fed back to video screens which Dane monitors. Dane wonders at the near identical similarity of Hammond's body to that of the android Vision. Ant-Man finds the control device within Hammond's electronic brain, and using the tiny sparks that allow Hammond to become the Torch, destroys the unit. He then reemerges, briefly aflame, and Dane and Thena proceed to reactivate the android.
At the hospital, the ritual proves successful as Danny awakens. Seeing Misty embrace him, Tiger slinks away, feeling dejected.
Days later, Jen and Hammond discuss matter's at the latter's office. He expresses concern at the ease with which he had been contolled by the Master and doubts his humanity. Jen assures him she finds him "more human than most."
At the same time, the recovered Danny informs Luke he intends to take a short hiatus from Heroes for Hire. Before he departs, they take a moment to revel in their friendship.
