    When an editor at Dell Publications, Henry Steeger became the first person to edit a comic book when he was given the job of creating the first comic book The Funnies in 1929, managing it for its first year he then left Dell and co-founded the pulp magazine publishing company Popular Publications. During his 25-year pulp career, Steeger also created The Spider

    In his later years Mr. Steeger is noted as being the first president of the civil rights organization the National Urban League.
