    F-CKING EPIC

Hellboy has by far been a favorite character of mine for some time.
I've been reading the title for years and years, I collect every bit of memorabilia that I come across, and I've even gone as far as getting a Hellboy tattoo that covers my entire right calf (totally unforgivable). He's probably the only character I'm this passionate about.

His world encompasses all my interests in mythology, the occult, the paranormal, horror, and he's just written so damn well. He's just a genuinely intriguing character that blows away the competition. And what's better is that his world keeps growing wider and wider, breaking through boundaries and daring to make the story bigger with each issue. His universe is just soooo involved and when I immerse myself  I'm always astonished by the thought and depth of the characters and story.

So consider my surprise when this issue still managed to knock me on my ass even though I've come to expect big plots twists.

In the last issue of this story arc Hellboy comes face to face with the witch Morgan Le Fay, half sister to King Arthur and mother of Mordred, Arthur's bastard son...
    Yeah, that means incest... Anyway...
Morgan Le Fey has some interesting information that she reveals to Hellboy.
It turns out that her son's bloodline did not end with his death. When Mordred died killing his father he had already had three sons and a daughter. The sons were murdered and the daughter was kept hidden having children of her own and preserving the bloodline of La Fey and King Arthur. The bloodline flows down through the centuries to Sarah Hughes, the witch claimed years ago by a demon who planted his seed in her... And if you don't remember who that is, it's Hellboy's mother, making Hellboy the last in the Arthurian bloodline and the rightful king of Britain.

If that's not insane enough Morgan La Fey leads Hellboy to a room where we find the legendary sword Excalibur once again having it's blade locked within a stone. If you don't remember the legend of Excalibur it was stuck in a stone before and only the true king of Britain would be able to pull it free.

So Le Fay breaks it all down for Hellboy in this scene. Hellboy has always been destined to wear a crown whether it be in Hell or on Earth. She tells him that the queen of the witches is now referring to herself as a goddess of war and is almost ready to use her army to spill blood across the land...
But being the rightful king of Britain, Hellboy could claim his destiny by pulling Excalibur free and raising Arthur's army from the dead to protect Britain once more...

It's a very heavy revelation and Hellboy, true to character, wants nothing to do with it and sits before Excalibur pondering what he will do... And that's where we are left off.

    How cool is that?!?!?

I love where this story is going. Like I mentioned above I always appreciated his story for it's range and scope.
But I never knew it would get this big. F-cking EPIC!
