    Deafened but not defeated

There's been a lot of waiting for this issue and when it's finally out.....well,you can get pretty confused. A few issues behind Clint got deaf and this issue is all about that. There's almost no dialogue and when the characters try to talk with each other, well,Clint just doesn't hear them. It can be pretty confusing to understand what exactly they are trying to say and what they are doing but as long as you keep attention to their facial expressions and body language everything will be just about right. Matt Fraction and David Aja both have put a lot of sweat to learn the signs deaf people make to understand each other and we should give them creadit for that but the thing is that we, readers, should try to learn some small stuff as well because we want to know what is going on. I was impressed that sign language was included in the issue, I was expecting to be just a silent issue or something like that but I can say that I am pretty impressed.

Confusion is all around the place but even without dialogue and big speach bubbles we are still able to understand everything that is going on. And all of that is possible thanks to David Aja. His work is brilliant as always and he makes it the easiest for us to understand the script of the issue and everything that you can get from dialogue. There are moments when there is like small speach bubbles which indicate that this is the thing that you can get from lip reading but that is that. Matt Hollingsworth who is the colorist also does an amazing job to help out David Aja and I can say that this team is one of my favorites out there right now. It's a big bummer that next issue won't be drawn by Aja as well.

Matt Fraction's characterization of both Hawkeye and his brother Barney are awesome. Before this title started coming out I didn't care for either character, especially Barney Barton. Clint was a pretty far, far, far favorite of mine but now I dig his character way more. It's a shame that the series are close to an end and that we had to wait so much for this issue to come out because it has been around four months and when a book is as good as this one four months feel like years.

The issue was really good. Sign language, lip reading, stuff that are in this issue and which show you how hard it is to be deaf and to be able to hear a sound around you or to hear the voice of your favorite people. Fraction and Aja did a wonderful job to show this to us but at the same time it was pretty confusing and some stuff are still left misunderstood by me. This is definitely one of the best books Marvel has to offer and it is a shame that we had to wait so long to get this issue which was a pretty fast read if you ask me. You still have to look closely to understand what the writer is trying to say but even that isn't that slow or hard to get.

Finally, after a 3 month delay since the last issue, Hawkeye #19 hits the stands. Was it worth the wait? That is going to be up to you, but I can say that seeing David Aja’s art again, just made everything right in the world. When we last left Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, he had just taken a shot to the side of the head, and was left in a pool of his own blood. We start this issue with Clint in the hospital, and the doctor writing a note. There are no word balloons and you quickly realize wh...
