With the success of the Guardians of the Galaxyfilm now comes an animated series on Disney XD. Premiering in late September, this new cartoon delivers a lot of the characters from the Marvel film, plus a few others, while further exploring some of these characters.

Marvel released a couple clips over the weekend of how Peter Quill became Star-Lord and how he got aboard Yondu's ship.

I was interested until the second clips showed grown up star lord.

Lil Peter seems to be coping with alien abduction really well.

Question: Was Yondu a big character in the Guardians of the Galaxy lore before the movie? And did he take in Quill for a few years and all that?

I just want to know how much of the MU and the animated MU is going to be influenced by the movies.

Glad the animation is better than The Avengers cartoon. Fingers crossed that it will be decent.

@twentyfive Yondu is a founding member of the original Guardians of the Galaxy from the year 3000. They traveled back in time and teamed up with the Avengers in the 616. Later after the event of Annihilation Conquest the team of misfits that we know as the Guardians from the movies took on the name after finding another future member Vance Astro lost in time.

In the comics Yondu is completely different. He has a native american / shaman thing going and is very spiritual. He has absolutely no connection to Star Lord in the comics, that was all made up for the movie. He also uses a bow to shoot his arrow, then whistle to control it in the comics, while in the movie he doesn't need a bow.

@galactushungers: Thank you for the info. I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but I kind of dislike Star-Lord's personality from the movies and this new show. I mean, how many of those kinds of guys fill the MU already? Even that character type can be considered generic at some point.

He was much cooler in the EMH show lol. But they were a more broody team in that cartoon. But still, I think it's cool.

People hate on the fact that these new cartoons take a few cues from the MCU but I think it's great because then they get to tell their own stories with characters that may not be showing up in the films anytime soon or as frequently. Avengers Assemble used Ant-Man, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four and others. So yeah it has ideas from the movies but freely gets to use more comic oriented characters.

Also liking the use of the classic Star Lord element gun.

hands down the best animation style ive ever seen from a Marvel cartoon production. im looking forward to this

first clip was great. Surprisingly in the second one the animation quality drop.

I'm afraid the hype around the movie has already died down, this is no longer that interesting.

Yeah, this show takes its cues mostly from MCU which is probably just fine since animated adaptations from movie characters generally work quite painless.

The MAU has gotten better with time, so this show should be decent, but I really hate Rockets voice

@cgoodness: I don't really 'hate' his voice as such but some of Rocket's lines are a bit inarticulate at times.

Doesn't quite have the charm of the movie. It's suffering from the same pacing problems that the current Spider-Man and Hulk animations are suffering from. Still, it's got more character than Agents of Smash. I'll give it a shot.

I think Ultimate Spiderman has enough of this already. I would have preferred a more serious character like Black Panther or perhaps even Miss Marvel or Captain Marvel. Iron Fist definitely could have been cool too.

@twentyfive: Yondu was part of the original Guardians of the Galaxy, so he's important to the backstory of the Guardians in continuity.

@bigbdawg: Yep. It was my comic ignorance and the fact that Marvel cartoons seem to change things to fit the movies that made me question Yondu.

Also, Yondu seemed like the anti-hero type in the movie.

What target market are they trying to reach with a 9:30pm time slot? This looks like it is for children but what kid will be up for this?
