Is Vin Diesel voicing Groot inGuardians of the Galaxy? It has yet to be officially confirmed, but pretty much all signs are pointing to yes. Hero Complex had an opportunity to chat with the actor and jumped right into it. When they asked, "Ok, so why Groot?" Vin responded with the following.

I’m an actor. I can do whatever the … I want. As an actor, not everything has to be the most obvious choice. And sometimes, the best thing you can do — as far as Steven Spielberg and his advice — is to defy expectations. So if everybody thinks you’re going to go for this one thing and you flip it entirely and go for the strangest Marvel character, it’s interesting. And when something is interesting, it’s inspiring.

When HC stated Guardians is at least halfway through production, Vin said, "That’s the thing — I’m so busy. The audience wanted Vin and Marvel, Vin and Marvel. But I’m too busy to do a six-month role. So what Marvel came up with was really interesting. … I am watching a social wave influence and in some ways guide their thinking.."

As for why he changed his Facebook cover photo, The Fast & Furious actor says he gets "inspired by things" and that Marvel isn't upset with him at all over the move. "The last thing they are is mad. I'm pretty open, but I have been secretive about this. I went to Comic-Con and I got blasted while I was on the Hall H panel for Riddick. Someone asked a Marvel question. I couldn't say anything because of that secrecy."

So yeah, it seems safe to assume we'll hear Vin's signature voice say "I AM GROOT!" quite a few ways when Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters 8/1/14.

He was the Iron Giant, and didn't really say much. He can do the same here, and still give a performance. I don't know why everyone is making a huge deal out of it :P

I do wish he was Thanos, though.

I'm not against at all. Groot isn't that complicated of a character to voice, he's actually pretty similar to the Iron Giant

I'd rather see him play a Marvel character instead of voicing one but either way it still be awesome to have him apart of the Marvel Cinematic universe!

Vin Diesel was the voice of the Iron Giant, another role where he had view lines but was very powerful. Another role where he was actually a gentle giant. So I think he could very well play Groot and pull it off and for it to be true. If its not thats fine too, but he would be perfect.

I think Vin could play a decent Carl Creel. I'm not sure how they could work him in but I think that it would be interesting to see.

I'd like to hear him voice Groot & then physically play Black Bolt(fingers crossed for the Inhumans someday getting some kind of cinematic love). Imo he'd be spectacular in both roles.

If he is Groot I think he will be an AWEsome Groot.

Seems more an more likely he'll be Groot, but the way he's talking about it still makes me wonder if this isn't more misdirection.

How can voicing Groot be interesting or inspiring?

Perhaps Vin is confusing his potential job with that of the CGI guys who have to animate and render Groot. It's just an easy way to add another movie title to his vita while the producer get another big name. A Win-Vin situation nonetheless.

I'd be okay with him as Groot. I never knew he was the voice in Iron Giant until it was mentioned the other day by @k4tzm4n . Then again, I haven't seen Iron Giant since 1999:p

Even if Vin plays Groot doesn't mean he wont be able to play another character. Like John Rhys-Davies in the Lord of the Rings. Vin could play a character like Groot, just his voice and CG, and then a character like the Vision where its actually him in costume and make up and stuff.

The irony about Vin Diesel is that he's actually a pretty smart guy, despite what his more 'popular' filmography shows.

Pretty much my view on this.

Having his name tied to the film would be great for marketing, which is what all this really boils down to.

I think Van Diesel would be a great Groot cause he's got the build for it, but not the right heightPlus at comicon this year they realesed a picture of the the guardians of the galaxy and groot was tall and made a skinny character. I would probably say that he would make a perfect Drax the Destroyer, cause Drax is bald and not to tall,although van diesel would haft to get a little skinnier
