Grendel, refreshing and rad.
If truth be told I came across Grendel by watching the Kevin smith Movie 'Chasing Amy', being a comic book fan, and Kevin smith fan this was almost my favourite of his films. Then, on closer inspection, I saw that the guy playing Mike Allred was in fact Mike Allred. This is when I started to take notice of all the little things in the film and I noticed a poster of a cool looking guy, 'Grendel'.
I got hold of the 'Grendel Archives' and after the foreword I fell in love with 'Grendel'. the first issue (not the primer but the one I'm reviewing) you hear Hunter Roses back story and I had never heard of a character so intricate and yes simple. The art, although basic makes the reading very easy and I'm a massive fan of black and white books anywhoo. I can't really fault the issue in anyway apart that the art is a little to "round" for me, it's merely a personal preference and therefore does not hinder my view on how well written it is. It has everything I look for in a comic, humour, dark humour, violence, and just pure grit. Also anti-heroes are always fun to read about and have the potential for epic twists!
In conclusion I recommend this issue to everyone, and I also recommend The entire Grendel series!
